Romero shows why he IS the Franchise
Posted: Sep 28th 2005 By: oklastaff
TPW Champion Romero Contreras has been on a roll of dominance this year. He defeated 3 opponents to claim the vacant TPW Title and has been obliterating most of his opponents in less than a minute since then. But TPW Commissioner Rocco Valentino seems to believe that this is not enough for the fans. On October 24, Romero was summoned to the ring and presente with a handpicked opponent by Rocco, who Romero obliterated in approximately 10 seconds. Rocco then invoked the "personal services" clause in Romero?s contract and forced him to bring water to ringside, fan the commissioner and serve as a ringside steps for TPW Ring Announcer Kitty.
Romero performed all these services and was then surprised by a Title vs Title match with TPW Oklahoma Champion Anthony Jackson. The 2 champions battled to a 10-minute time limit draw, but Romero was not satisfied with that and demanded 5 more minutes, with the fans chanting for the same. Rocco agreed and the competitors battled for another 5 minutes before the time limit was reached again. Rocco refused to extend another 5 minutes, but did seem open to the possibility of granting another match to Romero for the Oklahoma Title.
When questioned about his tactics, Rocco said "It may have looked like humiliation to a politically correct point of view. I?m not politically correct, so it looked like motivation from my point of view. Let?s face it. How long would Romero continue as the TPW Franchise wrestling 5 second matches? Eventually, he would face someone who would take him to the limit and he wouldn?t be ready. Once you call yourself the TPW Francise, you had better deliver on the legacy."
Romero has been with TPW since it was OCW. He has proudly stood as a mainstay for the company and has held the TPW twice. He's also made an appearance for NWA-U this year and has been making regular appearances in MSWA as the Lone Shining Star.
