Breaking Treyfabe: Cupid's Chokehold

Breaking Treyfabe: Cupid's Chokehold

Posted: Feb 12th 2012 By: CMBurnham

With Elote in its offseason right now, having to turn to other local fare for my indie wrestling fix. Over the past year have been going to more and more of the now named Steel Rage Professional Wrestling (ex Main Event Reality Combat) ? events ?usually housed out of Mounds.

Now, the venue in Mounds is a bit tiny and can get packed quick, but it is still a fun enough indie wrestling center and during the Summer months there was a banging snow cone stand just within walking distance across the street. Also, there was a tank.

Recently though SRPW has been able to get shows closer to Tulsa ? namely the converted high school kid gameroom hangout / church weirdly named Chaos in the famous downtown Sapulpa area.

Last week they had an event at Country Club Gardens in Tulsa for FREE! Suggested donations were solicited and the venue got packed to the rafters real quick.

On a side note, my co-editor of this site and I were able to say ?donations, donations you fool? on every opportunity we could fit in ? forever inspired by the classic movie Coming to America. We are pathetic, I know this.

Also in attendance in the press box was one of the editors of our rival Oklafan.com (hashtag #moneyfeud) ? although our heat has diminished (mainly to me not writing an article in a year it seems) ? it is still always fun to have and acknowledge a rival if only for the ratings.

Somehow or another Robbie Awesome is the acting commissioner of SRPW and we were all blessed to hear him on the mic plenty of occasions. During the intro he was interrupted by new heel Gorilla Nate. Gorilla stated that he was coming for the top talent in SRPW and I?m thinking he could be someone to make a future run at champ Jake O?Brien?s title unless he has a partner in pocket to challenge the tag team champions?speaking of?.

Kolby Wolfe & SRPW Tag Team Champions The Jersey Kings beat Alleigh the Great & the K.C. Wolves to open the event. This was a very solid and entertaining ?trios? match as they call it in SRPW (they call it six man tag where I come from). There was a great powerbomb and a high flying finisher in this match. Kolby works well with the always popular with the ladies and guidos Jersey Kings and the K.C. Wolf in the singlet pulls a Jack Swaggerish gimmick off very well.

Anarchy and Khaos did an interview segment next in which Anarchy challenged Khaos? toughness, going so far as to call him out in front of his mom who was in attendance. Khaos responded and slapped a submission hold on Anarchy setting up a submission match at the next SRPW event.

Next up Kyle Everlast was promised a title shot if he were to win his singles match of the night.

Rolling Thunder beat Kyle Everlast (thanks to interference from Ray Martinez). Everlast appeared to have the upper hand in this one until Ray interfered, continuing their fued and cheating Everlast after a title shot that he has worked hard for.

Sam Stackhouse beat Kid Krazy. This was probably the match of the night as a battle between a small high flyer and a brute force had many great spots but unfortunately for Krazy, Sam?s finisher at the end was too much for the small dude and Sam got a clean pin.

Jake O?Brien won an 8-man ?Sweetheart Scramble?. Jake proved why he is the champ by outlasting 7 other wrestlers to prevail in this match.

J.B. beat Ray Martinez for the US Title after interference from Kyle Everlast. Kyle got some revenge on Ray big time by helping J.B. win the US title in a major upset. Ray was controlling the match and mocking J.B. and the crowd big time. For him to lose the belt by basically having someone to do him what they usually do to them was the ultimate irony.

Shane Cortez, Pork Chop and Khaos beat Ace Archuleta, Jon Cross, and Anarchy. Now, while I had hoped the match would just be Ace powerbombing the other team and calling it a day this turned out to be a very good match as well with each wrestler getting to show off their ability and of course the major feud carried along was Anarchy and Khaos getting in plenty of blows against one another. Shane got to do a spot off the top rope and Cross was as entertaining as he always is. At the end of the day, after everyone was in and out of the ring Khaos rolled up Ace with a small package for the victory.

Jake O?Brien beat Bobby Burns by forfeit. In what was a stiffly fought affair, Bobby surprised the crowd by not taking advantage of a knocked out O?Brien after B. Rabbit had interfered when the referee was not looking. In what we thought was to be Burns face turn, he simple stated he did not want to win the championship under dubious measures and promptly got in one last shot on Jake before leaving.

A few questions to be asked after this set of matches before the next SRPW event ? which is this coming weekend in Sapulpa ?

- Who is going to win the grudge match between Anarchy and Khaos
- What will Ray Martinez?s priority be ? revenge on Kyle Everlast or regaining the US Title?
- Who is out there to feud with the Jersey Kings for tag gold? Jon Cross and Ace Archuleta perhaps? Will the K.C. Wolves come back to town?
- Who does Gorilla Nate have his sights set on?
- Will Robbie Awesome ever return to the ring?
- Is the Bobby Burns/Jake O?Brien feud over? Does B. Rabbit now have the attention of the heavyweight champ?
- What about Chris Fury? He put on a great match against Jake at the last Sapulpa event ? it is only a matter of time before he makes his return to SRPW.
