Could Christmas Come Early In SRPW?
Posted: Nov 17th 2011 By: CMBurnham
Since the death of MERC and the revival of SRPW, the two main feuds have been between Khaos and SRPW United States Champion Ray Martinez and Jake O'Brien & SRPW Champion Bobby Burns. Now it appears that the issues between those two may be over before the end of 2011.
Both Martinez & Burns have held on to their titles since July, but have been able to do so mostly by dodging the persistant challenges of Khaos & O'Brien. When O'Brien was stripped of the SRPW Patriot title, he was awarded an SRPW Championship match, but it was after a 4-on-1 beatdown by Burns, Martinez and the Ring Intruders. Since then, Burns has seemingly refused to face O'Brien 1-on-1 in a match.
But at least O'Brien got the 1 match. Khaos and Martinez have not yet faced each other in singles competition. Despite repeated pleas, begging, confrontation and other assorted tactics to try and gain the match, Martinez refused to step into the ring 1-on-1 with Khaos.
But that's now out of Martinez & Burns' hands. After the opening contest this past Saturday at the SRPW event, Martinez & Burns came out to address the fans. As usual, they ran down everything they could think of about Oklahoma that they hated, then moved on to how wonderful they were. Also as usual, the fans wanted little to nothing to do with their bragadociousness, especially when Burns said that there was no one big enough or brave enough to challenge for their belts. That was the point at which O'Brien & Khaos arrived at the ring. Khaos took the mic and asked if "Damas y caballeros" means "Ray sucks!" in spanish. He then issued a very simple challenge. He proposed that Burns & Martinez face O'Brien & Khaos in a tag team match in the main event that evening. If Burns & Martinez won, they would never have to worry about either of the other two men challenging for their titles again. But if Khaos & O'Brien won, they would both receive title matches at the December event AND they would get to choose the stipulations for them. Though initially cautious, Martinez & Burns both agreed and the match was set.
When it was time for the match, Martinez & Burns had back up. Not only was Ray's valet, Selena, present, but his personal "insurance policy", Ace Archuleta, was also at ringside. O'Brien & Khaos had the fans' support and that was all they believed they needed. It was a back and forth match, but it seemed that fate had had enough of Ray as he was thrown out of the ring and his forehead connected with the corner of the stage area where the ring announce table was set up. Referee John the Encourager checked Ray to make sure he was still conscious and then began to administer the 10-count. Ray beat the count, but was obviously loopy as he could not get a firm stance, took a couple of punch-drunk swings and then collapsed in the ring. Khaos knew that he had to take advantage of this and rolled Ray over, pinning him for the 3-count.
Ray was rolled to the outside where Selena dumped a bottle of water on him in an effort to revive him. Meanwhile Khaos grabbed the mic and began to slowly taunt Ray. But before he could announce what his choice of match was, Burns slammed him in the back of the head with his bullrope. O'Brien dumped Burns out of the ring and took the mic, saying he was tired of Burns' running and hiding and that wouldn't happen next month as he challenged Burns to a Bullrope Match! O'Brien then handed the mic back to Khaos, who said that this was the first time he saw stars where it wasn't from looking at Burns' ugly face. He then focused on Ray, saying that he wanted a No DQ match AND he wanted his tag team partner, Anarchy 2nd, as the special guest referee. Ray pitched a fit but there was nothing he could do about it as Khaos had won the match and was completely in his rights to request this type of match.
The date for next month's show has not been made official yet, but the clock is certainly ticking for Burns & Martinez. Both men CAN back up their words when pushed into a corner about it and that seems to have happened here. But more importantly, both men can be extremely devious if need be. And with both of them desperate to hold on to their titles, there's no telling what lows they will sink to. O'Brien & Khaos need to be completely prepared for anything in their matches. And if they're lucky, both will get Christmas presents a little early this year.
