5th Anniversary Proves To Be 3-Time Charm For York
Posted: Nov 13th 2011 By: CMBurnham
Michael York returned to ComPro at the "Save Ryder" benefit in Owasso. Little did he know that just a couple of weeks later he would once again hold championship gold.
ComPro celebrated their 5-year anniversary a little later than usual. The actual anniversary occurred at the end of August, but with ComPro on hiatus at that point, they were unable to hold an event commemorating the achievement. 5 years is a long time and over that period, many roster changes had occurred. Of the original 17-person roster (including ring announcer Kitty and refereee Mike Two), only 5 are still active: ComPro Champion Tim Rockwell, The Canadian Red Devil, Ignition (then known as Sudden Impact) and Michael York. When Mike Two came out to open the 5th anniversary show, he brought the other 4 people with him and acknowledged their contributions and achievements to the company. After exchanging pleasantries with Rockwell and admonishing the Devil for his behaviour at the aeroport upon arriving in country (where he allegedly attacked Goldeneye before Stevie Caballero could break the conflict up), Mike Two turned to Ignition. He mentioned that Igntion's twin brother Reckless had been forced to step away from wrestling to handle some personal issues and noted that Michael York had been back at Ignition's side at the "Save Ryder" benefit. Two disliked the idea of stripping Ignition of the tag team titles, so he awarded the other half to York, but forced them to defend it in the opening match against X-Cal and Jake McCoy. York would prove to be the key ingredient in that match as he won with a roll-up on McCoy to retain the belts.
This is York's 3rd ComPro Tag Team title reign. Ironically, his 2nd came with Ignition's twin brother Reckless when all 3 men were under the tutelage of Boss Campbell. Prior to that, he and Brett Taylor formed a team called Crazy Beautiful, again guided by Boss Campbell, and won the belts. That first title came in a Triple Threat Match that also involved the Saints of Twilight.
