Timeline: History of ECW 1994 DVD Review

Posted: Nov 10th 2011 By: mikeiles

1994 was an amazing year if you were a wrestling fan. Bret Hart vs. Owen Hart was the hot feud in WWF. Vince Russo was nowhere near a creative writing team position (time machine trip anyone??) Sting, Lex Luger and Ric Flair were in WCW with no glimmer of the nWo in sight for many months as Eric Bischoff was promoted to Executive VP of WCW and ?the Franchise? Shane Douglas was ruling the NWA affiliated Eastern Championship Wrestling. By the end of 1994 the whole ECW landscape would change forever and become Extreme. Thanks to Sean Oliver and Kayfabe Commentaries fans of ECW can relive all of it with Timeline: History of ECW.

At the onset of 1994 Shane was managed by ?Sensational? Sherri Martel and his major rivals were ?the Living Legend? Terry Funk and the hardcore icon Sabu. Tod Gordon and Paul Heyman were on the same page, Tommy Dreamer was a squeaky clean babyface & Raven was working in WWF as manager Johnny Polo. Though the two hour program Shane covers all the major ECW historical moments like: ?the Night the Line Was Crossed? (in intimate detail), a trip to the World Wrestling Network tapings run by Jim Crockett Jr., August 27th AKA the night ECW left the NWA and Shane tossed down the World Heavyweight championship (also in intimate detail), a proposed trio of matches versus Ric Flair for the NWA World title before Flair re-signed with WCW, the ECW debuts of Mikey Whipwreck, 911, 2 Cold Scorpio, Brian Pillman, Jimmy Snuka & Ron Simmons, WCW roster members Arn Anderson, Bobby Eaton and Mick ?Cactus Jack? Foley mini-visits to the promotion, the caning war between Sandman and Tommy Dreamer that also involved Sandman being ?blinded? by Dreamer, the Funks vs. Public Enemy that resulted in chairs raining down on the ring and much more.

The major highlight non-ECW related is when Shane gives his brutally honest opinions on ?Nature Boy? Ric Flair and the source of their animosity that has lasted decades. Not being a major ECW Fan (unlike 99% of the OWW Radio listeners) I must say I did find this entertaining and informative. Shane Douglas should be working in an executive or creative position in WWE or TNA but if you know him you know his view on those two organizations. Check out www.crossfirellc.vze.com to see his arrival in Crossfire Wrestling as the Commissioner.

If you want more on Shane, he visited OWW Radio recently and you can hear it via http://wildtalkradio.com/oww/owwradio102511.mp3 (cheap plugs are cool.) If you are keeping track Paul Heyman owes Shane Douglas $144,410 and with interest I am sure it will keep going up. As with the 1997 release, RF Video (www.rfvideo.com) teamed up with Kayfabe Commentaries to provide footage used in the feature and several DVD?s outlining 1994 can be added to your purchase for a special price. The next DVD?s on the www.kayfabecommentaries.com site for sale include YouShoot?s with Chyna (already on sale) & Tony Atlas (12/13) plus Guest Booker with former TNA Talent Relations head Terry Taylor (11/22). Be sure to check out the audio from Sean?s recent visit to the Howard Stern program on the main page of the site.
