Gold Fever Strikes Deadly Blow To Tag Team
Posted: Oct 31st 2011 By: CMBurnham
They once were a dominant tag team in southern Oklahoma. Now, one betrayed the other and reasons have yet to be explained. But a safe bet is that it has to do with the UWF06 Heavyweight Championship.
2AM are former UWF06 & 3DW Dual Kombat Champions. And they were the best of friends. Last Sunday, both men were entrants in the 15-man Gauntlet Battle Royal to crown the new UWF06 Champion. Keyoh came in at #3 and Hernandez drew #7. Hernandez's entrance marked something of a turning point as Al Farat, perhaps the most veteran competitor in the event, began using his spike to attack the other combatants. But as he continued to go after them, he began to wear himself out and 2AM, along with The Canadian Red Devil, Jake Logan, Shane Rawls & D Money, were all able to eliminate the "Crimson Prince", making him the first person to be thrown out of the match.
Hernandez & Keyoh continued to target combatants and take them out until a major miscommunication happened as Hernandez accidentally knocked Keyoh over the top rope. Hernandez tried to apologise, but Keyoh was infuriated and the look on his face made it clear that he believed this was no accident. Keyoh didn't try to interfere in the match, though. He simply walked to the back, glaring at his tag team partner the entire way.
Hernandez was one of 4 people to survive at the end and advance to the main event: a 4-Way Elimination Match to crown the new champion. But prior to that match, some other matches were held to give the "Final Four" an opportunity to rest up and prepare for their championship opportunity. One of those matches pitted Keyoh against D Money. These two were no strangers as they had faced each other in tag team competition the previous month. And in that match, a new member of BMG was unveiled in the form of K-Ro. The three of them made an attack on 2AM, leaving both of them laying in the ring, so it appeared that some payback might be in order. But that opportunity never came as BMG, in full force, hit the ring as Keyoh was preparing D Money for his finisher. All 3 men hit Keyoh with strong moves and as Keyoh desperately looked to the entranceway, hoping for Javi to hit the ring and save him, no help came. Keyoh was left, a limp and broken man in the middle of the ring, while D Money told the fans they could just "shut up and like it."
Obviously Hernandez was preparing for his Championship match and was unaware of what was happening to Keyoh or he would have been there to assist. And the time eventually came for that match. Hernandez had Christopher Cambridge, MSWA Oklahoma Champion Eric Rose and Montego Seeka to contend with. All 4 men tried to catch a lucky pin at the beginning as they picked someone to schoolboy. It just showed how focused they were at winning the championships. Cambridge, the least experienced in the match, was the first to be shown the door. He took finishers from all 3 men and was then pinned by Rose. At that point, Jack Logan and his father/manager Jake Logan arrived. Jack jumped up on the ring apron to distrace referee Kenny Mack and Jake slammed the briefcase into Rose's head, allowing Seeka to pin him easily. Now it was down to two men, both of whom had trained at the same time under the same person. That familiarity with each other was shown as several near-falls and some excellent chain wrestling occurred over the next few minutes, but as can often happen, the ending came almost out of nowhere. Hernandez Schoolboyed Seeka and was able to apply just enough leverage to get the win! But he barely had time to celebrate before BMG once again attacked the ring, disrupting the party and attacking Hernandez. However, it wasn't long before Kunna Keyoh arrived with a steel chair. It appeared all had been forgiven and possibly explained backstage. Kunna used the chair to drive BMG from the ring and guarded it with Javi.
And then...the unexpected as Kunna slammed Javi in the head with the chair and walked away.
No explanation was given and only supposition can be made as it certainly appears that Kunna has turned his back on Javi. Intersestingly, this is not the first tag team partner that Keyoh has betrayed. On June 12, 2009, Keyoh attacked Ky-ote Joe, destroying their tag team Native Pride during an NWA-OK event in Ada. Perhaps it's just something in Keyoh's personality that prevents him from existing long in a tag team environment. Or perhaps there's something deeper here than a perceived betrayal. Maybe Keyoh had been plotting this all along. Hopefully at the next UWF06 event, some explanations will be offered and things can become clearer.
