Pro Wrestling Legend To Visit William Penn

Pro Wrestling Legend To Visit William Penn

Posted: Oct 26th 2011 By: CMBurnham

To generations of professional wrestling fans, Harley Race is a legend.

This coming Friday at 6 p.m., Central Empire Wrestling is hosting an event where Race will be on hand to greet fans young and old. The event will also feature several wrestling bouts including a 15-man ?King of CEW Rumble Match.?

Austin Bayliss, a promoter and trainer with CEW, said Race is definitely a familiar face to anyone watching professional wrestling on TV or attending an event in the 1960s, ?70s or ?80s.

?He was the ultimate ?villain,?? said Bayliss of Race?s wrestling persona. ?People hated him, but respected him because he was such a tough, mean guy.?

Levi Tarbell, PAC and student activities director, helped book Friday?s show at Penn. He agreed with Bayliss, saying Race solidified his reputation as a ?bad guy? decades ago.

?Everybody definitely knew who he was in the ?70s,? said Tarbell, adding that Race?s appeal as a wrestler can be recognized by current Penn students and alumni in town for homecoming.

The event is open to the public. Tickets may be purchased in advance for $10 and $15 at the door. Tickets can be purchased at Summer?s Car Credit, 911 A Ave. W., or Precise Imaging, 501 High Ave. W. Limited front row seating can be purchased by sending an e-mail to cewrestling@yahoo.com.

Penn students with valid student IDs will be admitted for free.
