Nash Attacks Morton
The contract that Kevin Nash, Marvin Ward and The Rock-N-Roll Express signed Saturday night in Woodstock, Va., for the main-event tag-team match at the AWE Night of Legends pay-per-view featured a key stipulation with an impact on the short term: stating that the match was off if Nash laid a hand on either Morton or Gibson before the Oct. 15 pay-per-view.
Nash figured out the loophole to the stipulation: a chair is not a hand.
"Big Sexy" laid out Morton with a chairshot moments after the contract signing, but after leaving the building to catch an early flight home his tag-team partner was injured in an attack by The Rock-N-Roll Express following their win in the main event of Night of the Superstars over Chase Owens and Malik.
Ward was treated by EMTs and later fitted with a cast on his right arm after suffering an undisclosed injury. X-rays were negative, but Ward is due at the doctor on Monday morning for further evaluation.
Marvin Ward Attacked
The initial prognosis for Ward was not good. Even if it is determined that he did not suffer a broken bone, he still could be on the shelf for 4-6 weeks, possibly putting in doubt his participation in the Night of Legends main event.
"I don't want to jump the gun on this, but at the same time, Kevin doesn't need to go into a grudge match with a one-arm partner," a distraught Ward said after the Woodstock show.
Ward had announced that the match would be his retirement match. The former WCW and Smoky Mountain veteran hadn't wrestled since suffering a devastating shoulder injury in 1997, and had wanted to wrestle one more match so that he could go out on his terms.
AWE Commissioner Rick Garrison said today that the company will address Ward's participation in the main event at Night of the Legends following Ward's medical examination on Monday.
