The Grand Slam or Triple Crown - Still Elusive
Posted: Jul 1st 2011 By: mikeiles
Bret Hart was WWE's (then WWF) first Triple Crown winner. He won the WWF Tag Team Titles, the WWF Intercontinental Title, and then the WWF World title. Several wrestlers have accomplished that feat, but it has become harder with WWE now having two different brands with 2 different World Titles.
On June 25th in Lawton, John O'Malley became the most recent wrestler to win every men's title in a fed when he captured the IZW Tag Team Titles with Brad Michaels. He was the very first IZW Heavyweight Champion and has held the title 3 times total. He held the IZW Impact Division Title in 2007 from March 17th until November 17th. He was a 2 time IZW Hardcore Champion. The last IZW Hardcore Title reign ended on May 20, 2006 when he decided to rename the title the IZW Cruiserweight Title, making him the first title holder. He lost that title on October 21, 2006. The IZW Cruiserweight Title has been defunct since July 2008, so while some wrestler could win all current IZW titles, O'Malley's feat of winning every title that IZW has ever had can never be duplicated unless IZW reinstates both the Cruiserweight Title and the Hardcore Title.
There are other feds that list Grand Slam or Triple Crown winners as well. In ComPro there is Tim Rockwell and in SWCW there is Kareem Sadat. MSWA has 3 wrestlers to hold all their current titles in Outlaw, Michael Faith, and Aaron Neil.
So what does it take to win every title in a fed's existence? It takes determination, patience, and time. Looking at the last three wrestlers to achieve this feat, it took Rockwell 4 years and 4 months from the time he won his first ComPro title (Tag Team Titles with Bernard Funk) to his most recent (Heavyweight Title). Sadat took 3 years, 8 months, 24 days from his first SWCW title (Hardcore) to his most recent (Heavyweight). O'Malley took 7 years, 2 weeks, and 3 days from his first IZW Title (Heavyweight) to his most recent (Tag Team with Brad Michaels).
So who is on the cusp of joining these wrestlers in this elusive club? The list is lengthy and may contain some surprises. Listed below are the wrestlers just needing one title to complete the task. The title in parenthesis is the title that currently eludes them.

It should be noted that title histories for MSWA prior to Oklafan's existence are sketchy. It should also be noted that only Tim Rockwell is one title away from achieving the feat in 2 different feds. However, Dane Griffin and Brandon Walker are one title away in 2 different feds.
In baseball, one of the rarest feats is hitting for the cycle. Hitting for the cycle is getting a single, a double, a triple, and a homerun all in one game. Winning every title in the same fed is a rare achievement as well. But maybe it should be equated to an unofficial hockey term, the Gordie Howe hat trick - a goal, an assist, and a fight all in one game.
