NHS grad, local pro wrestler dies in car crash

Bulmer well-known in wrestling world

A 2007 Newcastle graduate died in a single car crash late last Wednesday on NW 16th Street near the HE Bailey Turnpike overpass bridge.

Dallas D. Bulmer, 21, was driving his 1999 white Ford Explorer SUV westbound on NW 16th Street when his passenger wheels ran off into the ditch on the north side of the road, according to the police report by Master Patrolman Greg Grover.

From the evidence at the scene, police believe Bulmer overcorrected his vehicle, causing the vehicle's rear to skid around before going into the ditch on the south side of 16th Street. When the SUV left the roadway, it rolled once ejecting Bulmer, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was thrown out of the driver's side window, the report said.

A driver that did not witness the accident, but saw the lights from Bulmer's car in the ditch, reported the vehicle to police by calling 911.

When emergency officials arrived, Bulmer's body was found under the vehicle near the passenger's rear side. He was dead on arrival, police say, most likely from the weight of the SUV landing on top of him.

Newcastle Police Chief Gary Norman told The Pacer that Bulmer was on his way home from Walmart when the crash took place - a detail police learned from Bulmer's family.

Police believe that Bulmer was driving 48.63 mph, which is above the posted 35 mph zone, the report said. Norman also mentioned that the road veering to the left leading up to the overpass bridge was probably another factor that led to Bulmer's crash.

The portion of NW 16th Street where the crash occurred was also recently paved and the road drops off on either side, The Pacer noticed when on the scene Tuesday.

A local celebrity

On Monday, the day of Bulmer's funeral in Blanchard, The Pacer learned that Bulmer was well known in the professional wrestling community. Crisstopher "The Freakshow" Cross was Bulmer's performing name and made his debut in August 2007, just four days after his 18th birthday, according to a wrestling website.

Bulmer's last match was just recently on June 11 when he was chosen in a "Pick Your Poison" stipulation where he defeated John E. Stone.

"In slightly less than 4 years and 97 matches, Crow managed to touch an entire state, working in eight federations. The young father loved his family and his fans," according to an Oklahoma Wrestling Fan Resource Center press release. "His last Facebook status simply said, 'Everyone has a purpose. Stop and think, what's yours?' Few better epitaphs could be written on purpose."

"He was very good and a very talented young man," said Brett Garcia of Sooner World Class Wrestling in Oklahoma City.

In fact, Bulmer was scheduled to be the main act in a steel cage wrestling match on July 23, Garcia said.

The event will still go on and now, all proceeds will benefit Bulmer's family, including his wife and two young children, he said.

The wrestling event will start at 7:30 p.m. with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. at The Underground Arena, 227 SW 25th Street in Oklahoma City. The arena is located between Harvey and Robinson, Garcia said.
