Can Rudy Edwards Be The All-American Boy?

Newcomer Rudy Edwards took another large step in his professional career this past Saturday when he captured his first professional wrestling title, the SWCW All-American Title.
Edwards has certainly become the fan favourite in SWCW. With throngs of cheering teenage fans erupting when he comes to the ring. Not that he's interested in them. He's probably more interested in the opponent across the ring.
Because, in case you haven't been to an SWCW show, Rudy Edwards is gay.
It's a revelation that has gotten him some interesting comments at times, some even coming from Rick Garrett, who once paraphrased the chorus of "YMCA" to sound "Why Are You Gay?".
But Edwards certainly isn't ashamed of his lifestyle and it provides an interesting psychological tool to use against his opponents.
Edwards had no back up in his title shot against Ryan Styles, but Styles brought the members of the Hardcore Connection with him. This allowed Maniac Mike to distract the referee. At that point, acting SWCW commissioner L. J. McDaniels grabed the belt and ran to the opposite side of the ring from Mike. Styles attempted to whip Edwards into McDaniels, but Edwards reveresed it and McDaniels couldn't get off the ring apron fast enough. Styles collides the belt, knocking him out. Edwards then covered the fallen champion for the win.
After Edwards was done celebrating, the Hardcore Connection entered the ring and placed all the blame on Styles, firing him and beating him until Tyson Jaymes came to his rescue. A show of respect from Jaymes and Styles was just one of several that night, but sure seemed to be the most meaningful.
Edwards now sets out to prove that he can be a succesful champion. And if there are still doubters in the crowd, he hopes to change thier opinion as well. In the long run, but personally and professionally, Edwards just wants acceptance like every other modern American. And there';s nothing wrong with that.
