Luck Of The Irish Helps Sheamus Back To Success

Luck Of The Irish Helps Sheamus Back To Success

Posted: Mar 20th 2011 By: CMBurnham

As had been mentioned several times on WWE television, Sheamus' fortune seemed to have been used up ever since he won the King of The Ring Tournament.

The Irish superstar was once one of the most feared and dangerous men in WWE. But the past few months saw him on a losing streak which seemed to be bringing him close to company with the Brooklyn Brawler or the Mulkey Brothers.

That frustration began to set in and Sheamus knew that what he needed to do was make an impact. And part of that movement began at the WWE RAW event in Oklahoma City last Sunday.

Sheamus was present at the event, but not scheduled for a match. That didn't prevent him from coming out and blindsiding Yoshi Tatsu before his match could begin. After delivering a thunderous Celtic Cross, Sheamus reiterated the issues he'd been having since King of the Ring and vowed to capture the WWE United States Title the next night on RAW. If he didn't, he would leave the WWE, but he felt assured that wasn't going to happen. As far as he was concerned, the King was dead, so long live the Celtic Warrior.

Most people believed that was all that the fans would see of Sheamus, but they were oh-so wrong. The semi-main event of the show saw WWE United STates Champion Daniel Bryan defend his title in a Triple Threat match against Evan Bourne and Ted DiBiase, Jr. The match featured lots of high flying action and even a ridiculously funny moment when, after a series of quick pin attempts, Bourne put Daniel into a sunset flip for 2. Daniel sat up, pinning Bourne for 2. They then proceded to roll around the ring like a ball, trying to pin each other. Meanwhile DiBiase couldn't figure out where or how to grab ahold of them and try to take advantage. Things go much more serious later when Bourne his a Shooting Star Press on Bryan. DiBiase threw Bourne from the ring and tried to pick up the scraps himself by putting Bryan on DreamStreet. But Bryan reversed out of that and cinched up the LeBelle lock, forcing DiBiase to tap out. At that point, Sheamus hit the ring and gave Bryan a vicious bicycle kick, laying the exhausted star out. He said that the next night he would become the U. S. Champion or he would quit.

Sheamus had a point to prove on RAW the next night and did just that. Perhaps he was motivated in part by being on the cover of Muscle and Fitness magazine. Or perhaps it was that his job was on the line. In any case, he was more aggressive and focused than in recent weeks. As Bryan, who had been working on Sheamus' ankle for most of the match, got up on the top rope and came off, he was met in the face with a Brogue kick, laying the champion out cold. 3 seconds later, the end of the U. S. Title reign of Daniel Bryan occurred and the job of the new champion was safe. The next night at the WWE Smackdown tapings, Sheamus confirmed his return to form by beating WWE Intercontinental Champion Kofi Kingston. With Sheamus now back on track, everyone in the WWE should be worried that the next potential target might be them.
