Big Smooth Makes Big Debut For MERC
Posted: Mar 13th 2011 By: CMBurnham
Big Smooth crashed the party last Saturday at the MERC event, making it clear to everyone that he was preparing to be a force to be reckoned with the in fledgling organisation.
Smooth, who at the time was the UWE Champion, had been sitting at ringside on January 29 and was pointed out by the MERC Tag Team Champions The Ring Intruders. Jon Cross & Fuel went out of their way to say that "The Ladies Man" had trained with Harley Race, but now had to buy a ticket to get into a show. Smooth did nothing at that event, but that would change in the next month.
On March 5, two teams squared off to try and earn a shot at the MERC Tag Team Titles. On one said, there was the veteran team of The Texas Outlaws, Bobby Burns & J. W. Hardin. Large, mean and difficult to do anything to. On the other side stood The Jersey Kings, Scott Riley & King James. New, energetic, wanting to make an impression. Both teams knew that a win in their match would go a long way to determining who would get that tag team title shot. But things took a turn that no one expected when the tag team champions battled out during this match with Khaos and Anarchy 2nd. Both champion members had suffered losses to these 2 men in singles matches earlier that night and those losses had not set well. So all 4 men battled into the ring, disrupting the match.
And then the lights went out.
When they returned, in the middle of the ring stood Big Smooth. Cross and Fuel looked a bit panicked, but then began to act relieved as they thought they had the Outlaws behind them. That wasn't the case and the fans erupted as Smooth double chokeslammed the tag team champions thunderously in the middle of the ring.
Cross got some redemption this past Saturday as he defeated Smooth to capture his 3rd UWE Title. It waits to be seen what revenge Smooth will take on Cross & Fuel at upcoming MERC events.
