Rogers High School named Boise City assistant Gary Tuell as its head football coach on Wednesday.

Tuell, an All-State player at Kingfisher, also is Boise City's principal. Boise City is in the panhandle.

"I am very excited and feel very privileged to get this opportunity," Tuell said.

Tuell, who earned his bachelor's degree from East Central and master's degree from Southwestern State, also has been an assistant football coach at Oklahoma City Grant, Turpin and Terrell, Texas.

Tuell was an assistant on Class A state championship track and field teams at Boise City (girls) and Turpin (boys).

"He has a positive outlook, is very motivated and is committed to building a quality football program at Will Rogers," Tulsa Public Schools athletic director Stephanie Spring said in a press release.

Tuell succeeds Ward White, who departed after three seasons. Rogers was 0-10 in 2010.
