Double D: "I Can Rescue Everyone Except The One Person I Need To"

Double D: "I Can Rescue Everyone Except The One Person I Need To"

Posted: Feb 12th 2011 By: CMBurnham

He can help everyone else, but it seems that Double D can't save the 1 person who he needs to, his girlfriend Erica. It was bad enough in MSWA when he was forced to allow her to become the "personal property" of IZW Champion Jermaine Johnson, but a few weeks ago in IZW, Double D's emotions got the better of him and he was on the verge of losing his job unless Erica became the personal assistant of MSWA Mid-South Champion Johnny Z. Johnny took that role to unscouted depths, humiliating her with markers on her face, dumping buckets of water on her to "clean her up" and then forcing her to mop up the mess. But when he ordered to her put lotion on a new tattoo he had acquired, that was just too far. Double D burst into Johnny's office and confronted the IZW owner, but it all seemed to backfire as Johnny revealed that there would be a match at Violent Valentine pitting Double D against Randy Price and Erica would be the special referee.

Last Saturday, Double D again found himself compelled to rescue Erica after she was badgered by Johnny Z & Jermaine Johnson into trying to assist Johnson with a win in a 6-man tag team match. Erica was ordered to grab Johnson's title belt and hand it to him to use, but she was reluctant to do so and after a tug-of-war between the two, Johnson was met with a superkick from Eric Rose which led to the pin. Johnny immediately got in Erica's face after the match until Double D ran out. But Double D could do nothing as Johnny still had the power to fire Double D if he laid a finger on him. At that point, Starr entered the fray and a catfight broke out between her and Erica. Johnny got everyone separated and asked when the inmates had started to run the asylum. He reminded them that he was in control of IZW and was the "natural born leader". Since Double D was feeling froggy, he offered to let him jump, but not on him. Instead, he announced there would be another Intergender Tag Team match, as there had been in IZW 2 weeks before. But this time, it would see Double D tagging with Starr to take on Randy Price & Erica.

Two weeks before, Price & Starr had gained a victory because Johnny Z had come out and ordered Erica to step off the apron, which prevented her from tagging in to relieve D. D was annihilated by Price and then Starr asked for the tag and arrogantly laid herself across D for the win. This time, the situation was even worse as neither Erica nor D could trust their partners. Things went fairly smoothly as D took matters with Price in hand and Erica did her best to handle Star. But inevitably, the moment came when both D & Erica were tagged into the match. Neither wanted to compete with the other, but Price dropped off the ring apron to prevent Erica from tagging back out and Star verbally berated D to get on with winning the match. Johnny Z, who had been at ringside to ensure that Erica compete in the match, jumped up on the apron and demanded that the couple fight each other. They refused. Both Price & Star entered and at that point, it almost became a tornado rules match as D & Erica teamed up against Star & Price. Star missed a charge on Erica and headbutted Johnny in the groin, knocking him off the apron. D & Erica then each hit tornado DDTs on their respective rivals before D ascended to the top rope and caught Price with a high cross body for the win. After the match, Starr & Price tried to attack the other 2, but no luck followed them as they were caught with mutual Moonlight Drives. Double D & Erica ended the night by celebrating together in the ring, but as always that togetherness was all too fleeting.

The next day, D and the members of Impact, Inc, were present at the MSWA show and again D found himself as part of the rescue squad. MSWA Mid-South Tag Team Champions Greatness On Demand were defending their titles against the Impact, Inc, conglomerate of Jermaine Johnson & Bernie D. And Johnny Z & Jordan Jacobs were at ringside to provide support (and potential interference). When Damon Windsor hit the Black Hole Slam, Johnny hopped up on the ring apron to distract referee Mark Wilson. Jordan Jacobs then threw one of his crutches into the ring. Johnson used it on Windsor, which brought IZW Tag Team Champion Kevin Morgan running down. At this point, Wilson threw the match out due to outside interference from both sides, but that didn't matter as Impact, Inc. began pummelling Morgan until Double D & Bad Boy came to the rescue and drove Impact, Inc. from the ring. Johnny tried to sneak behind the fan favourites, but they heard him coming and as he made a charge at them from behind, they side-stepped and Johnny went sailing over the top rope onto the bodies of his associates. Bad Boy grabbed the microphone and said if they wanted to book 6-on-2 matches, then he'd counter by setting up the main event as Morgan, D & himself vs. Impact, Inc.

Both sides were prepared for the war to come, but neither expected the surprise appearance of MSWA commissioner Shawn McKeaigg after the introductions had been made. Shawn congratulated Johnny for his 1-year reign as MSWA Champion, then gave Mark Wilson the rest of the night off and announced that he would be the special guest referee for the main event. This turned the match into a total screwjob as McKeaigg refused to count any pinfall attempt on the part of Morgan's team, but made fast counts anytime Impact, Inc. was down. McKeaigg did count men who were outside the ring, but seemed on the verge of tears every time it was a member of Impact, Inc. Double D made the turning point in the match when he accidentally caught McKeaigg with a crossbody, rendering him unconscious. D then began a series of finishers by hitting Jermaine Johnson with the Moonlight Drive. Bernie D responded with a Sky-High on D, but was given an Oklahoma Stampede by Kevin Morgan for his trouble. Morgan received the Final Impact neckbreaker from Johnny Z, but before he could capitalise, he was taken out by Bad Boy, who covered the champion, reached over and slapped McKeaigg's hand to the mat 3 times, officially ending the match.

D's willingness to assist others is highly admirable, but when does someone come to assist him? Obviously he's not fighting the forces of Impact, Inc. alone. But he needs to coordinate an effort if he's going to liberate Erica from their clutches. D may find it necessary to put some extreme stipulations out there to tempt Impact, Inc. into offering Erica up as well. Until she's by his side again, permanently, there's no way that he can rest and move on focusing on the next step in his career.
