Breaking Treyfabe: Let Me Tell You Something Brother

It all started with a conversation at a Mexican restaurant?as most good ideas do. I was discussing how I had been to four straight weeks of local wrestling in that golden metropolis known as Tulsa.

?You should start a blog.? ? said Lee.

Therefore, you can pretty much blame him for this entire thing.

My love for pro wrestling started as a kid, my Uncle Darren had bought me an issue of Pro Wrestling Illustrated because he knew I loved to read. Macho Man Randy Savage was on the cover. This was around the time he had just beat Tito Santana for the Intercontinental Championship.

I?ll speak of various moments from my childhood as a mark on later installments, but for the moment I?d like to recap what was the month of wrestling in January in the Tulsa area.

January 8th, Compound Pro Wrestling, Tulsa ? Though it is definitely not the best when it comes to pace, location (I preferred the Perfect Practice set up they had the latter part of last year to the Oakhurst Fire Department), or overall booking, ComPro is still a decent enough $5 to spend. A recap:

- Brandon Walker continued his fued with Mike Two and has turned into an excellent heel.
- The Hardcore Playas beat the Saints of Twilight, I think it was by dq or something?.whatever it was it called for the new Administrative Assistant or whatever, Mr. Haney, to immediately declare a rematch. Problem is, Mr. Haney, in his first executive decision, totally flubbed the names of the teams. Complete. Microphone. FAIL.
- Mr. Haney was thankfully not at the matches two weeks later, so much for Mike Two needing an assistant.
- It is horrible that ComPro is not utilizing one of their best young wrestlers, the great and dashing Richie Adams (fanboy alert), and instead placing him in a stable with the Canadian Luchadore?I mean Chris Morrison.
- That?s right bookers, don?t think the fans don?t realize that Chris Morrison and Luchie are one and the same.

I think perhaps the reason I prefer the previous location of ComPro is because it was a very quick walk to a bar which you definitely need before, and after, so many botched spots.

Speaking of botched spots, I am being nice in my January reviews. In future live reports I will crown one match as the Botched Match of the Night.

January 15th, Elote Luchador Wrestling, Tulsa ? Though I only stayed for one match it was perhaps the best match of the month that I saw, and the reason honestly this blog will serve its purpose in the future.

You see friends, there is a website that covers wrestling fairly well in Oklahoma. However, the maggots that run that website refuse to cover the Elote luchadors. Fyi, the Elote Luchadors, with their LuchaPalooza Street Festival, bought in more fans in one night than ComPro has in probably three years of matches combined. And that is me being nice.

Furthermore, I have personally seen the people who run this to be unnamed website at the Elote matches. If they aren?t going to cover the matches, why are they even there? Are they (and I say they when it may just be a ?he?) that much elitists that they look down upon these luchadors as nothing more than circus acts?

Fact is, the wrestling is real, just in a smaller ring. The Oklahoma Boxing Commission is there to administer just as they are at every other wrestling event in this state. If anything, this unnamed website needs to be a true FAN of OKLAHOMA wrestling, an OklaFan if you will, and not only cover the luchador wrestling of Elote, but probably encourage other federations to follow suit with what the biggest drawing game in town is doing.

But I digress?.

I was there to watch the always entertaining La Mosca Del Bar wrestle El Castor Luchador. La Mosca, aka the Bar Fly, made his ring entrance first standing on the bar, then he came through the middle of the crowd to boos. He grabbed the sign from the hands of an El Castor fanboy and ripped it in half.

In what was the first disqualification in the history of Elote wrestling, the Bar Fly lost the match by hitting El Castor with a flask. It was the best use of a secret weapon since Reed Richards wielded the Ultimate Nullifier to repel Galactus in Fantastic Four #50.

January 22nd, Compound Professional Wrestling, Tulsa ?

- Max McGuirk is an awesome fit youngster with an amazing top rope finisher and plenty of charisma, provided a fun start to the show.
- Brandon Walker with another solid match and victory over the equally fun to watch Joe Cothern, who inspired chants of Mucker, and introduced the term Muckerplex to ComPro?s vocabulary.
- Chris Morrison again with some double duty as himself and the Canadian Luchador. So he got paid ten bucks.
- Jesus Rodriguez over Dutch Hagan, setting up what will certainly be a fun first blood match this coming weekend.
- Dutch?s run as champion has been fun, while I still don?t believe he was the man in the mask that attacked Shane Morbid, he plays a decent enough heel.
- Speaking of, the December match between Mr. Endurance and Dirty Dutch was brutal. Those men took some nasty bumps.
- Not enough Excellence Personified at this card, none really ? and they are really the heels that you love to hate and hate to love ? much like the Freebirds of yesteryear.

January 29th, Main Event Reality Combat (MERC), Mounds ? been meaning to see this young federation for awhile, so I made the long drive to Mounds to check it out. Was greeted by some lonely streets and a tank, fun little place.

- Robbie Awesome drew major heat, as did the rest of his stable, the Foundation I think they were called.
- Ray Martinez drew major heat and called me fat personally, so that was mean, hah. I think the fun part of these local shows is the back and forth between fans and wrestlers. Nothing will ever beat the time that Shane chopped Richie three times (I think it was Richie), and then pointed to me and two buddies and said ?That was for you, you, and you.?
- Well, maybe the time that Mr. Saturday Night yelled at me and Keith for not buying him a Jager before the match was the best ring callout I?ve had.
- Hot Topic referee, aka X-Statik , needs to eat some steak and eggs?and also never referee again.
- MERC did employ my favorite referee in the state, the short little dude that yells ?twoooo? on every two count.

Overall MERC had solid storylines and just needs to shore up its announcing. Note to anyone who announces, a double countout is not a draw. Sam Stackhouse and Chris Morrison were both counted out. A draw is Ric Flair versus Sting for 45 minutes at Clash of the Champions. To say that the match between Sam and Chris was a draw is a slap in the face to those men.

Tulsa even got a Smackdown taping where afterwards rumor has it some wrestlers were enjoying mozzarella sticks at TGI Friday?s, and one wrestling announcer was enjoying one too many beers at Joe Momma?s Pizza as The Miz was getting annoyed with some fanboys. Rumor also has it that the loudest ever singing of Real American took place that evening in the Blue Dome District. But alas, my friends, these are just rumors and since I wasn?t there I don?t want to turn this into just another dirtsheet based on false claims.

To finish the month off, I got to hang out with a local wrestler and dancing ring announcer, as well as a good college friend, and watch as the best latino wrestler this side of Juan Cena won the Royal Rumble.

His name is Alberto del Rio, but you, you already know this?.
