The Current State of the MWA

Maximum Wrestling Alliance began running wrestling shows in September 2008, and with the quality of show and enormous fan base, it seemed like the MWA had began another quality wrestling product in the state of Oklahoma. However, the state of the MWA seems to be in question, as some of their stars have seemed to disappear to pursue other interests, leaving the question of who will challenge for the MWA titles. Without challengers to these coveted belts, the title runs of the current champions seem to lack a certain quality that champions should have during their reign. So, what happened to their stars?

?Bad? Brad Michaels debuted for the federation, and he seemed to have the talent and charisma to go far in the federation. However, other than a near victory over MWA Max-Division champion, ?Darling? Dustin Heritage, he has done little to nothing in the MWA. He has also been absent from the last two shows, making it seems like his stay with the federation was short lived.

?Third Generation Superstar? Max McGuirk and ?Broken Arrow Bad Boy? Justin Lee were two of the biggest stars for the MWA. McGuirk seemed to be poised to win the MWA Heavyweight title; however, he received a developmental contract from World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and left the federation during that time. Once he returned, he seemed to have lost the same intensity he took to the ring with him before. Justin Lee is a former MWA Max-Division champion, but he has not been the same competitor since losing the belt to ?Mr. Endurance? Sugar Shane Morbid. Also, he has not been seen in the MWA in quite some time. Now, these two are focused on their newly formed tag-team, Bad Bromance, and they are now dual tag-team champions for both Main Event Reality Combat (MERC) and United Wrestling Entertainment (UWE). Since they are the tag-team champions there, they have commitments that will affect their dedication to MWA.

?Mr. Endurance? Sugar Shane Morbid is a former Southern Tag-Team champion, when those belts were recognized, and a former MWA Max-Division champion. Since losing the belt in a triple-threat match to current champion, ?Darling? Dustin Heritage, Morbid has been absent from the ranks of the MWA. In addition, he has been focused on title reigns in both Compound Pro and Tornado Alley Pro (TAP), where he recently lost the title and is the current heavyweight champion, respectively.

Silo Sam, the enormous competitor from Silo, OK, was another bright talent that debuted in the MWA in 2010, but he ran into an obstacle in the form of former MWA Heavyweight champion, ?Terrific? Tim Rockwell. After a brutal attack from the Texan, Silo Sam disappeared, possibly due to injury. During his time in the MWA, he amassed an excellent win-loss record, and he seemed as if he would move quickly up the ranks of the federation. With his recent string of absences, it is unlikely that he will have the same momentum as he once had in the rankings.

Lars Manderson, a former member of Excellence Personified, was another bright, young star that seemed destined for the top of either the Heavyweight division or the Max-Division. A shoulder injury has kept him on the MWA sidelines for an extended period, and he is now inactive in the MWA ring, as he is now the ring announcer for the federation.

As one of the former MWA tag-team champions, ?Big Country? Jake Boulder was one of the top stars in the MWA. His feud with current MWA Heavyweight champion, ?Handsome? Jack Legacy, garnered a lot of attention from the Board of Directors, but an back injury, followed by an extensive back surgery now has this grappler on the sidelines, and it is possible that he may not return to action soon, if ever.

One of the most fun and colorful tag-teams, El Matadors did not have the best win-loss record in the MWA tag-team division. In fact, they had a very solid losing record, not having notched a single victory, if memory serves me correctly. However, persistence does pay off, and had the duo kept working on their skills, it may have eventually paid off. The problem is that we?ll never know. The duo has not been seen in the MWA in a long time, and it is uncertain when, or if, they will ever return.

Perhaps now is a better time than normal to be a champion in the MWA. There seems to be fewer challengers for the titles as there has been in recent years. Or, perhaps new challengers will emerge. Richie Adams seems to be a great new talent in the MWA, and he may become the next big star in the federation. El Super Colibri recently returned to the ranks as ?Prime Time? Brandon Walker, and there is no arguing that he has the ability to be a champion in the MWA. One thing is for sure about being a champion, the uncertainty can either be a blessing or a nightmare.
