JR's Blog: Cena's Toughness...Heenan DVD Getting Rave Reviews..Emails Answered..Re-Orders Rolling in on Main Event Mustard

Beautiful day in Norman....warmer than it is in Phoenix where the Sooners are preparing to play UConn in the Fiesta Bowl Saturday. It's kickoff time....
Lots of on line speculation on John Cena's in ring injury that occurred Tuesday night in Wilkes Barre, Pa. I thought that John might have suffered a hip pointer which is a severe bruise. That speculation was erroneous on my part. He is day to day according to www.wwe.com. Knowing Cena he will be back in action much sooner than many, many others suffering the same injury. Athletic, hip injuries are hard to define or so they seem to be with football players. I certainly wish John a speedy recovery.
John Cena stood out for many reasons when I first met him in UPW in Southern California many years ago. Obviously, his physique was imposing. So was his brute strength. However, when we conversed and I found out that John was a former offensive lineman in college, John played center, I became even more convinced that the future, multi time WWE Champion could become a success if and when he made it to a WWE roster.
Cena has blown away all the expectations of him since his Smackdown debut. Who among us can accurately predict that an athlete could transition into the world of WWE and dominate it as Cena has?
My assumption is that John will return faster than any one else with the same injury and I fully expect him to compete in the Royal Rumble. I've even predicted that he was my early favorite to win the career defining, Royal Rumble match.
Time will tell on that prognostication but on this statement I stand...John Cena is amazingly tough, both physically and mentally, as well as being resoundingly resilient. Cena's pending issues with CM Punk is one of the most anticipated rivalries this fan can recall in WWE in recent memory. After the beating that I watched Cena endure Monday night on Raw, he was lucky to walk out of Albany. Seems like that might have caught up with Cena the next night.
Emailer...What do I feel is CM Punk's attraction to the WWE Universe? IMO, it's simply his overall talent. Punk is simply being himself which translates well on the TV screen. His skill set is unique and he is extremely confident in his abilities. The guy is a student of the game and will do what ever it takes to be the top guy in WWE. Plus, he has great verbal skills.
We've gotten several emails from fans who are raving about the new, Bobby Heenan DVD. Some even have said that it's the best DVD that WWE has ever produced. The Brain and Gorilla Monsoon were my all time favorite broadcast team to listen to and their work is well documented on this DVD. I highly recommend that you check out the Bobby Heenan DVD and pay tribute to the best manager, most entertaining broadcaster, and most underrated wrestler to ever earn a living in the wrestling biz. Did you know that 'Wease' even made the All Madden Team in 1989, as I recall. Now that's very cool.
Emailer...For the love of Pete...I am NOT the anonymous, Raw GM nor do I want to be. My days on Raw were awesome and filled with memories that will last me a life time but those days are over. Got it?
Emailer...Of course I don't 'hate' Michael Cole. He's doing his job and has simply interjected more of his natural personality into his work than he did previously. Some folks like it and some don't. People said the same thing about my announcing back in the day. My guess is that Cole doesn't care what fans think of him. Cole is garnering more attention than ever before in his career so something must be working, right?
Emailer...No I do not expect Brock Lesnar to walk away from UFC to return to WWE. Lesnar is not going to go back on the road for WWE or any one on a regular basis which is one reason that the UFC fits Brock's personality so well. Brock Lesnar has a binding agreement with UFC, has made millions fighting for them, and can earn millions more especially if he is successful upon his expected return to the Octagon in 2011.
Emailer...I have heard nothing of Bill Goldberg's pending return to WWE or a Wrestlemania appearance. Could it happen? Sure, it could. Will it happen? My guess is not likely. BTW happy belated birthday to the native Okie and former Georgia Bulldog.
Emailer...Did I grow up watching wrestling? Yes...I saw our local, one hour, syndicated show that was taped in a TV studio in Oklahoma City hosted by a fellow by the name of Danny Williams. Williams sign-off was always "Good night and watch out for flying chairs."
Emailer....My favorite wrestler as a kid growing up was Danny Hodge which will come as no surprise to most who read this blog. The most memorable tag team of my youth were the Masked Assassins who I write about in JR's Cookbook which is available in our on line store. The Assassins were brilliant and menacing. They set the bar for villain tag teams in that era. Their in ring psychology was impeccable.
When wrestling was only on one hour per week it gave new meaning to the term 'must see.'
We're already getting re-orders for our Main Event Mustard. That's awesome news for us and we sure appreciate folks trying it, enjoying it, and reordering it. Three, 12 oz plastic, squirt bottles is only $7.88 plus you get a FREE Koozie and a signed item, most likely a Topps Trading Card or a menu.
Wife Jan and sister in law Jeanine did an amazing job of getting hundreds of orders out this month and they deserve the credit for the success that we are having with our on line sales.
Emailer...I have no earthy idea if Awesome Kong has or is going to sign with WWE or not. I'm way out of that loop on those matters but if she did sign she would be the most un-Diva like Diva ever in WWE. It's likely just another internet rumor run wild.
If OU defeats Connecticut in the Fiesta Bowl then Joey Styles owes me an apple pie. If UConn beats my Sooners I owe Joe some Main Event Mustard. That's my entire wager on this bowl season. I avoid gambling on football games because I might get to liking it.
Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the holidays. Remember, don't drink and drive.
