News:
"Gorgeous" Jimmy Garvin has been added, at least for now, to the WWE Creative team. He has been with the company since the No Mercy PPV. He has taken the place of Michael Hayes, who is now the lead writer of Smackdown. Garvin is said to have the "Mike Rotunda" look in that he has packed on some pounds since we saw him last. He also is missing most of the trademark long hair that helped distinguish him back in the day. According to sources, thus far Garvin, who worked in recent years as a pilot, hasn't stood out or looked out of place in his new role.
There was some surprise that Dusty Rhodes, who has been on the writing staff for a while now, wasn?t named to the Smackdown lead writer position, but he seems to be looked at as an ?idea? man more than anything else.
South Carolina head football coach Steve Spurrier enjoyed WWE Raw Monday night at The Colonial Center. He's been friends with ?Nature Boy? Ric Flair for many years. Flair attended the Georgia-Florida game in Jacksonville nearly every year and was a big Florida fan when Spurrier was head coach of the Gators. Spurrier said Flair and country music star Kenny Chesney are planning to attend the USC-Tennessee game at Williams-Brice Stadium on Oct. 28.
On Tuesday?s episode of Boston Legal (October 10th), Alan Shore, played by James Spader, and Denny Crane, played by William Shatner, had a wrestling match, with the winner claiming the affection of Shirley Schmidt, played by Candace Bergen. Spader's character came to the ring dressed like an Native American and then stated his favorite wrestler growing up was Chief Jay Strongbow Sr.
Mick Foley is finishing up his third wrestling autobiography, picking up where he left off from "Foley is Good."
There is talk of OVW Women?s Champion Beth Phoenix returning to RAW this Monday.
ABC News has a story on John Cena at www.abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/print?id=2552396. It also looks at many other wrestlers who have gone into acting, including El Santo and Jesse Ventura besides the obvious ones like Terry Funk, Hulk Hogan, Roddy Piper and Dwayne Johnson.
For those of you who collect WWE action figures, according to Wizard Magazine's website, Kevin Sullivan, Nikita Koloff, Dennis Condrey, Luna Vachon, Butcher Vachon, Mad Dog Vachon, Peter Maivia, Harvey Whippleman, Mae Young, and Jimmy Garvin have all signed deals with Jakks Pacific to create action figures for the WWE Classic Superstar line. All are listed on a current WizardUniverse.com poll where readers get to pick a figure that will be produced by Jakks.
TNAwrestling.com has posted an exclusive video where Jim Cornette announces a ?Loser is Fired? match between Larry Zbyszko and Eric Young at Bound for Glory.
The artwork for the upcoming Roddy Piper DVD features a shot of Piper talking trash to Hulk Hogan while he is laying down in the middle of the ring, a memorable moment from WrestleMania XIX when Piper interfered in the Hogan vs McMahon match at the SAFECO Field. The DVD, titled 'Born To Controversy, the Roddy Piper Story' also has a picture of Hot Rod in his early days smiling. The release date for DVD has been moved up a week to 11/4.
Mason Hunter was inducted into the Central States Wrestling Hall of Fame at their show on August 15. This was as much a surprise to him as it was to the fans in attendance.
Jose Lothario will be honoured with a Lifetime achievement award at the Professional Championship Wrestling show on Nov 11 in Arlington, TX.
P. D. A. won a Spot award in Tulsa Saturday night as Hip-Hop artist of the year. P. D. A. is the music producer for Tim Rockwell & X-Cal's musical duo. X-Cal was in attendance at the awards.
