Paradise City Screwjob!!
Posted: Nov 4th 2010 By: CMBurnham
Seems like chaos has reigned surpreme at MSWA for the better part of 2010. Johnny Z brought Impact, Inc. in and won the MSWA Mid-South Title in February, a title he still holds today. Aaron Neil was forced to leave MSWA forever as a result of a Loser Leaves Town match in their last event at the Golden Goose in Midwest City. And MSWA owner Bad Boy has, at best, been sporadic with his appearances in his own federation.
In an attempt to keep the inmates from running the asylum, Bad Boy hired Shawn McKeaigg as the new commissioner for MSWA. McKeaigg certainly had plenty of experience in this type of position as he has filled the position of acting commissioner for SWCW for over a year now. McKeaigg stepped right into the midst of things, forcing Jermaine Johnson to face Dustin Daniels for the right to earn a shot at Johnny Z's title. And he threw in MERC & UWE Tag Team Champion Max McGuirk as well. That match came out in the favour of Dustin and it seemed like McKeaigg's influence boded well for the future of MSWA.
This past Sunday, everything took a step up. McKeaigg announced that the Battle Royal to determine who would face Charlie Haas would be held at the beginning of the show. This brought the returning Johnny Z to the ring where he declared that he should automatically get the right to face Haas since he was the champion. That, in his mind, made him superior. McKeaigg was having none of that and force Z, along with the rest of Impact, Inc., to participate in the Battle Royal. Johnny was the first person eliminated and after a lenghty match, it came down to Jermaine Johnson, Kevin Morgan, Dustin Daniels and MSWA Oklahoma Champion Xavior. Even though they had been eliminated, the other members of Impact, Inc., Bernie D and Jordan Jacobs, returned and dumped Daniels and Xavior over the top rope. Morgan was then disposed of by Johnson, who stood victorious in the ring. McKeaigg said that Impact, Inc. was going to have to roll with the punches and he was changing things up, making the main event on November 14 a 6-man tag team match. Dustin Daniels, Kevin Morgan and Charlie Haas would take on Jermaine Johnson, Johnny Z and,...Xavior!! The Oklahoma Champion, who was still at ringside after having been dumped over the top rope, seemed very surprised (and generally unhappy) about this move. And it wouldn't be the last surprise that McKeaigg brought this afternoon.
Dustin Daniels finally had a shot at Johnny Z, something he'd wanted down in IZW for months. And he also had a chance to win the MSWA title, something he came close to doing a few months ago before Impact, Inc. interefered and he won the match (by DQ) but couldn't claim the belt. Daniels began the match like a house-a-fire, throwing Johnny Z out of the ring and then propelling himself over the top rope with a plancha designed to take down all the members of Impact, Inc. who were still at ringside. But the group caught the diminutive fighter and Johnny then rammed him in to the corner post, switching the tide of the match. Double D fought from behind, eventually getting Johnny to backpedal, but again fate seemed to intervene as Daniels went for a crossbody and Johnny sidestepped, allowing Daniels to collide with referee Mark Wilson. Wilson went down and Johnny went up top to connect with a Top Rope Bulldog. But there was no referee to count the pin. Johnson forced NWA-OK Oklahoma Women's Champion La Reina de Corazones to go to the ring announce table and grab the title belt, then slam it into Daniels' head. La Reina picked up the belt, but refused to commit the illegal action. As both Johnny and Jermaine argued with her, she threw the belt into the ring. Daniels grabbed the belt and slammed it into the forehead of the champion, knocking him out of commission. Daniels frantically revived Wilson and then covered the champion. Wilson counted 1--2--3!! And the crowd was ecstatic as a new champion appeared to be crowned in front of their eyes. And it seemed official when ring announcer Milton Winkelman announced to the crowd that a new champion had been crowned in the form of Dustin Daniels.
But things weren't joyous in Oklahoma City for long. Impact, Inc. immediately began berating Mark Wilson and Shawn McKeaigg about the outcome of the match. McKeaigg has always been known as being the upstanding individual for Oklahoma City wrestling. And obviously, he faced a dilemma here. What he saw was clearly illegal, but the referee had the final authourity. McKeaigg had crossed paths with Johnny Z enough during his time as the co-ring annoucer (as well as when he was ring announcer for IZW) that it would have been no surprise if he had simply allowed the referee's decision to stand. But that didn't seem to be in the cards. Shawn called Daniels back to the ring. As the crowd began to protest, McKeaigg said that he couldn't overrule the decision when it came to who won the match, but he couldn't allow the title to change hands that way. Daniels refused to allow the title to leave his grasp, saying he had won it when he pinned the champion. McKeaigg continued to try and reason with Daniels. And then, as Daniels turned to salute the crowd with the belt, McKeaigg rabbit-punched him and the beating commenced.
McKeaigg stood admiring the work of Impact, Inc. as they pummeled Daniels into the mat. The only thing he had to say for himself was that any friend of Impact, Inc. was a friend of his. And thus any hope that MSWA fans had of order and sanity being restored to MSWA was immediately flushed down the toilet. Clearly, this had been a set-up from the beginning. Mckeaigg used Johnny Z's presence (and Bad Boy's repeated absence) to slide his way into the company. And then he proceded to plot his way to the top, all with the goal of assisting his new friends, Impact, Inc.
The fans were outraged and perhaps they can hope for some revenge when Charlie Haas returns to central Oklahoma to tag with Daniels and Kevin Morgan against Impact, Inc. and Xavior on November 14. Daniels and Morgan are by no means regular tag team partners, but Johnny & Jermaine have been in the past. That might give them something of an advantage, but what to make of Xavior being placed with the team. Is he a new Impact, Inc. recruit? Will he be willing to cooperate with Johnny and bow to his leadership? And will Shawn McKeaigg be pulling any additional surprises for the main event? Mckeaigg certainly has a lot to answer for. Perhaps some of those explanations will be forthcoming on November 14.
