Guest: Mick Foley
Date: 10/13/10
Your Hosts: Patrick Kelley, James Walsh, & Nick Noel

10/13 is the title of a pretty solid Sammy Hagar solo album. It also is the date where Mick Foley steps into the epicenter for the first time, 5 years removed from his first appearance on the show to promote Scooter. This time, Mick is here to promote a brand new book that wrestling fanatics like us have been raving about: Countdown to Lockdown, a Hardcore Journey.

Mr. Bang Bang himself stopped by and covered a myriad of subjects in a fun and enlightening interview including his reaction to the WWE plugging his book despite being under contract to TNA, his reaction to his Last Man Standing match with Ric Flair, and his reaction to the rumor that his in-ring career is over. Plus, fun stories about legendary pornstar Christy Canyon and the one-and-only "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka.

Check this one out. It is free to listen to in portable device compliant MP3 format and well worth a listen. To do so, visit http://www.WrestlingEpicenter.com.

MICK FOLEY

- Mick joins the show. James jokes that as long as they don't talk about politics, everyone should get along well. Mick laughs and says he gets along with everyone regardless their political persuasion.

- Mick has been impressed with the reaction to the book. He saw the negative reaction people had to the idea of him writing another autobiographical book about a year ago and was concerned how people would react to it. The end result, he says, is a book he's proud of. Mick says at no point in the book does it feel forced. And, so far most reviews in literary magazines and web sites have been positive. So, he is happy though it is too early to tell what kind of figures it will do best-seller wise.

- Mick says one of the things he is loving right now is his live book tour where he goes and gives speeches, chats with the people, and signs books. He says it turns out being a really fun time with a lot of fun stories, questions and answers, and he likes to meet the people. Patrick says he was at the Maryland signing and loved Mick's story about "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka. Foley laughs and says he was glad that he used that story as the closer that night as it is a great story.

- After requesting it, Mick tells the Snuka story. When Snuka left the WWF, he was one of the hottest stars in the business. But, backstage, the AWA management was worried that he was messed up; "messed" not being the word they used. The concerns of the AWA management got back to Snuka who said, "They think the Superfly is messed up?", he then went into the bathroom where you could hear ruffling paper and sniffing going on, and he emerged a few moments later and Snuka said, "NOW! The Superfly is messed up!". To do the story justice, you have to hear Mick's impression. Mick says, though, that The Rock's impression of Snuka is far better than his.

- When it comes to the WWE giving him a plug on RAW, Mick was told about it in advance. The WWE contacted the book publisher and asked for a review copy. He nervously approved and later heard that he was going to get a plug on RAW. His family watched that night to hear it. He says that if the book does end up on any kind of best-seller list, he'd credit that plug as being a big part of how that happened.

- Mick feels his last book was even more negative towards the WWE than this one. He tells a story stating that Vince read his last book where Mick said that the Dr. Hiney skit was probably the worst thing the WWE ever did, the skit where Vince McMahon played a doctor pulling various objects out of what was to be Jim Ross' rear end. Apparently Vince McMahon's shoulders began to shake and he said, "He's wrong about that. That was funny!" and still let it go in the book. Mick says, deep down, he thinks Vince McMahon has a soft spot for him.

- Mick is proud of his Last Man Standing match with Ric Flair but after seeing it back, he can see how people could be confused. What happened was Mick had pulled himself up somewhat early in the count and then slumped down. The camera only panned to Mick once he had slumped down so the TV audience at home might have missed him standing up and seen Flair get back up, though groggy, to his feet by the 10 count. So, in that respect, he can see how people would think Flair won. He thinks Flair should use that going forward saying he got up and Mick wasn't.

- Rocky II wasn't really on his mind with that Last Man Standing match. His Last Man Standing match with The Rock was absolutely, and clearly, inspired by Rocky II.

- James mentions that Christy Canyon found her way into Mick's promos about 5 years ago. Mick laughed and said that over the years, she had brought him happiness and when he did her radio show, she was so nice to him. He wasn't aware that he had used her name all that much but says she must have gotten into his psyche. He puts Christy Canyon over as being one of his favorites from that world because she was always in control and never appeared to be doing anything she was ashamed of in any way. He also jokes that she is the reason that he spent extra money for a scale on the book where those mentioned could locate where they are talked about within it.

- The rumor of Foley calling it a career is somewhat true. Mick says that his hope is to stay with TNA for the rest of his contract and contribute in any way he can but says he hopes that isn't as an active competitor in the ring. He feels he can contribute a lot to the company in a non-wrestler role and that is what he would like to do.

- The subject turns to Luna Vachon. Mick says that he and Tommy asked that she be a part of Hardcore Justice and TNA contacted her, Terry Taylor to be exact. She turned down the request saying she was in a good place. So, he has no idea what her mind set was leading in to her death.

- Patrick puts over the live appearances and book signings again saying they are well worth going to check out. Mick agrees. The interview.

- Mick signs off by saying he'll see us in 5 years and laughs. He says he'd love to come back on as we kept this fun and he really enjoyed himself.
