Reed Robbed Of Victory in MWA Vinita Debut

Reed Robbed Of Victory in MWA Vinita Debut

Posted: Oct 13th 2010 By: CMBurnham

"Hacksaw" Butch Reed may have come to MWA to express his thanks to the wrestling community in Oklahoma, but now he's caught in a full-fledged fued with ComPro Tag Team, TAP Tag Team & MWA Champion Jack Legacy, a man who he's had many conflicts with before.

Many years ago, Legacy and Reed first encountered each other in Pittsburg, KS, where Legacy insulted Reed. Later that same evening, Reed soundly defeated the arrogant Legacy after delivering a high impact top rope shoulder tackle.

This past June, Reed made his first venture into Oklahoma in over 2 years, coming to Spavinaw and appearing before the crowd to thank them for their support over the years. He was simply passing through on a goodwill tour. But later in the card, after the Foreign Legion had won a Capture the Flag Match against the Old School Express for the MWA Tag Team Titles, the new champions beat down the former champions until Reed reappeared to chase off the offending villains. Jason Jones challenged Boris Saarikoski & Dutch Hagen to find a 3rd man and meet them in a 3-on-3 match at the September show against the OSE & Butch Reed.

That match never happened as injuries seem to have put Jake Boulder's in-ring career in jeopardy. Currently, he's not cleared to competed in sanctioned events, although he is supposed to team with Jason Jones one more time to face the Foreign Legion in an unsanctioned match at the November MWA card. Meanwhile, Reed was recruited by Jeff Starchild to face Jack Legacy and his partner, former ECW Original Angel Medina, at MWA's debut in Vinita. First though, Reed was brought out by Lars Manderson to be inducted into the MWA Hall of Honor. Reed said it would have been impossible for him to accept the honour if he didn't have fans all around the world. He got it done however he could and is still going. But at that point, Legacy & Medina, along with MWA's Acting Director Of Operations (and Excellence Personified's leader) Mike Iles arrived. Iles said that when he was the ring announcer he got to induct true legends like Danny Hodge and Leroy McGuirk and now they've sunk to bringing in wannabes like Butch Reed. Reed replied that Iles and his crew had a lot of nerve raining on his parade. Iles went on to say that Angel was a legitimate badass while Reed simply wasn't tough enough to compete in ECW and Angel really crossed the line by saying that Reed was desperate to get into the MWA Hall of Honor because the WWE didn't want him in their Hall of Fame.

At that point, Jeff Starchild arrived and the main event was confirmed. And by the time that it came around, Jack Legacy had found one of the flack jackets that belonged to Army personnel and came to the ring with it on. He refused to remove it, claiming that he had suffered a rib injury while competing in Japan the previous week. When the referee threatened to disqualify Legacy if he didn't remove the jacket, Iles said that he had written notice of the injury from Legacy's doctors, Larry Mitchell and Barry Linduff. The referee didn't buy this and eventually the jacket was removed. The match began in the ring, but as most Jack Legacy matches do, it eventually spilled to the outside and Legacy was thrown across the ring announce table. Also at some point, Starchild suffered either a laceration on the outside of his nose or a broken nose that bled heavily.

For most of the match, Starchild was trapped in the ring, trying to make the tag to Reed. On at least 2 separate occasions, Starchild made that tag, but the referee didn't see it as he was busy dealing with the EP shenanigans. The ref was heavily preoccupied with Reed on the outside when Starchild, summoning up every ounce of strength left in him, hit a Blockbuster on Legacy. But as he went to cover the champion, Angel gave him a low blow and Legacy was able to pin the top contender while Reed could do nothing but look on from the outside, knowing that he should have been allowed in the ring.

Reed grabbed the mic and said this situation wasn't over. He promised that when MWA returned to Vinita in 2 months, he would be there for some revenge. Considering that Legacy hasn't defended the MWA Title at the last 2 MWA shows, perhaps Reed might be able to secure a title shot. Or maybe he just wants to let his hambone-like fists pound the champion into a pulp. Butch Reed proved that he can still hang with the new boys. And if he adds one more title to his resume, so be it.
