Mick's Blog: Countdown to Lockdown: 0 days
Posted: Oct 4th 2010 By: mikeiles
Yes, after all this time, the Countdown is over. What a whirlwind this past week has been. Please forgive me for the brevity of this column, but man, it's been a busy week. I just got into my hotel after a long drive from southern Jersey - my fifth book signing in three days. I'll will be in Portsmouth, NH on 10/4, Boston on 10/5 and Kensington, Md on 10/6, before flying into Orlando to take on the Nature Boy in that big "Last man Standing" match on the live Impact. Please check out my full tour schedule on http:mickfoley.typepad.com
Tough to believe that so many things have happened in just the past week. That in-ring promo with Ric Flair was one of the highlights of my career, and I hope it has fans geared up for the live show. Then it's on to Bound for Glory in Daytona Beach, Fla - the biggest show of the year; one where I know each TNA star will be doing their very best to steal the show, which is just as it ought to be.
I really want to thank Slate.com for publishing an article I wrote last Tuesday. Actually, I wrote it a few days before that, but it's late and for the life of me, I can't figure out how to write that sentence correctly. Come to think of it, I wrote some of the article nine months ago - but wasn't happy with it, before rewriting it and having it accepted by Slate. I mention this because the article, combined with a very nice piece in the Huffington Post, has resulted in incredibly gratifying feedback - largely from people who were not overly familiar with me or this wrestling stuff I do for a living. I mentioned last week how this book was so important to me, because I thought it might afford me the chance to make a genuine difference. One of the key points of my book is my feeling that each of gets to define for ourselves what being a "success" is. Don't get me wrong, I want this book to do well, and will likely weep openly and loudly if it doesn't earn a spot - any spot - on some kind of best-seller list. But when the tears a re all dry, I will do my best to remember my own advice and be forever grateful that writing this book has enabled me to make some kind of difference in the world.
Time to lose the sentiment - the Countdown to Flair is three days, and ticking.
Please check out me schedule on Typepad, or follow me on Twitter @realmickfoley. I have an interview lined up for Friday night at 10pm on "The Wrestling Observer Live" - should be interesting. Pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty interesting.
