WWE Champion targeted from all sides

WWE Champion targeted from all sides

Although WWE RAW World Champion John Cena received more popular support than he had been getting in other states this week, it still wasn't an easy ride for him through Oklahoma as he was the victim of 2 sneak attacks during his appearances here.

On Monday, Cena came to the rescue of Candace Michelle after she had been speared by Edge in her match with Lita in the WWE World Women's Title Tournament. The heat between Cena and Edge continued to build as their verbal confrontation escalated, so much so that Cena actually said that he could beat Lita with one hand tied behind his back. Edge took him up on this offer, much to Lita's concern and the main event of RAW in Oklahoma City was made.

Cena was a man of his word and competed the match with his right hand tied behind him. He quickly disposed of Lita, but after the match was finished, WWE Smackdown World Champion King Booker and his court, Sir Finlay & William Regal, came into the ring and surrounded Cena. Their appearance was motivated by the fact that Cena had accepted an offer by Smackdown General Manager Teddy Long to be the tag team partner of Bobby Lashley & Dave Batista in the main event for Smackdown in Tulsa the next night. The King and his court quickly subdued the handicapped Cena and, in an act of utter humiliation, Booker forced Cena to kiss his foot in the ring. All this was done while Edge stood by ringside and laughed.

This didn't seem to damper Cena's spirits, though. He arrived at Smackdown in Tulsa happy to be back and noting that many things hadn't changed since he had been drafted to RAW over a year before. But depsite coming out and having a good time, Cena remained focused on the task at hand and promised to deliver a measure of revenge for the actions of the King and his court the night before. And when the main event arrived, the action did not disappoint. Although the fan favourites had the upper hand early, the Booker, Finlay & Regal soon isolated Cena and worked him over for a long time before he could make the tag to Bobby Lashley. At this point, the action became too great for the referee to control and wrestlers began to spill outside the ring. Bobby Lashley would make the pin on William Regal, scoring the win for his team. But as Lashley and Batista were disposing of the Royal pains, Edge snuck into the ring and speared Cena after the match, reminding him that their issues are by no means finished. Edge then left through the fans, although in retrospect this may have been a mistake, as an overzealous fan threw ice at Edge, prompting a physical confrontation with the "Rated R Superstar" and resulting in that fan being ejected from the arena.

At this point, Cena, who had suffered some minor injuries from the 2 attacks, has been resting and working on promotion of his new movie, "The Marine". Edge is certainly plotting his next step on RAW this week. With no PPV for the RAW brand until the Survivor Series, it appears that this feud may be nowhere near over.
