General Skandar Akbar passes away
Posted: Aug 20th 2010 By: mikeiles
James Caldwell at PWTorch.com is reporting that Skandar Akbar passed away yesterday at the age of 75.
Akbar began his wrestling career in 1963 under training from Lou Thesz. During his career he spent a great deal of time as Danny Hodge?s tag team partner until Akbar turned on him to become the heel he is best known as today.
Akbar retired from active competition in 1977 and became a manager. In the early 1980's he debuted for Fritz Von Erich?s World Class Championship Wrestling as ?the man? behind King Kong Bundy?s Devastation, Inc. Akbar would become the territory?s top heel manager for the remainder of the decade as he continued his war against the Von Erich family.
Following the WCCW shutdown, Akbar made sporadic appearances for companies such as the Global Wrestling Federation before returning home to Texas. He opened a training facility and promoted shows under the Superstars of Wrestling banner, while also continuing to manage on various independent shows.
We at Pulse Wrestling send our condolences to the General?s many friends and family.
