Lawler, Cooper ?Divorce? Over Deli Plans

The King has given up the corner of Adams and Main Street.
Plans for a new wrestling-themed deli on the ground floor of The Claridge House at Main and Adams using the name of wrestler and announcer Jerry ?The King? Lawler have been called off. Lawler was going to lend his name to the venture to be owned by Joe Cooper.
But Cooper went before the Center City Design Review Board Tuesday for approval of a sign that will read ?Joe Cooper?s Deli: A Family Tradition Since 1941.?
Cooper?s family has been in the restaurant business and was known for box lunches.
Cooper said later that he and Lawler got what he termed a ?divorce? over the business and remain on friendly terms. Meanwhile, Cooper was busy changing the d?cor of the restaurant to delete references to Lawler.
Cooper said he plans to open next week and will feature free delivery in the Downtown area and delivery to other parts of the city. The Downtown deliveries will be by bicycle.
