JR's Blog: Summer Slam in Oklahoma..Will Toney last 5 Minutes vs Couture?..UFC..Sooners Football..Grilled Chicken made deliciously simple

Thanks for stopping by and paying us a visit. Hope you have time to browse in our store. We're working on a major offer from the store that I hope to finalize in the next few days.
Because of the short work day re: West Coast time this Sunday and with Summer Slam starting in LA at 5 Pacific, I won't be traveling to the event. I will watch it on PPV from the old, La-Z-Boy and, like any die hard fan, expect plenty of bang for my PPV dollar in the form of surprises, shockers, and stout bouts.
Instead of flying to California I will instead attend a closed scrimmage of my Sooners Saturday morning and see how the squad is evolving. OU is a young team but so many young players got playing time last year because of the amount of injuries the Sooners incurred in 09. This freshman class is stacked and many first year players are going earn playing time or so it seems. How that plays out is anyone's guess but I'm throughly optimistic that the Oklahoma team, ranked 8th in the pre-season polls, has a chance to be very good. I am already making travel plans and look forward to attending every game, home and away.
BTW and not that I'm keeping track but the Sooners open their Big 12 season Oct 2 in Dallas at the Cotton Bowl against Texas in my favorite, sports rivalry.
Back to Summer Slam, it will be interesting to see what bout closes the show Sunday. my money is on the Team WWE vs. Nexus tag. That bout has gotten by far the most significant, TV time.
We recorded over 400 lines of copy in a little over two hours today for the WWE All Stars video game. I really feel that THQ and WWE will field a hit with this concept. It's a fantasy bookers dream and will be out prior to WM27 in Atlanta sometime in early 2011.
Will James Toney last 5 minutes with Randy Couture at UFC 118 PPV in Boston later this month? Many people who follow me on Twitter, @JRsBBQ, don't think so and neither do I. Unless Couture gets caught with a bomb very early, I see Toney being taken down and finding himself in a much different world than he has trained for. As a UFC fan, I hope for an entertaining fight but I can see this one going South in a hurry especially if Couture can get a quick take down. Of course, Toney has the proverbial 'puncher's chance' at least while he's vertical.
Toney has said that after Couture that he wants Brock Lesnar. No, James, you really don't want that at all...trust me.
Brock's next fight vs. Cain Vel?squez is going to be massive and likely will garner over 1M PPV buys. Vel?squez, the Hispanic superstar, has a spotless record and according to Herschel Walker is one of the best conditioned athletes on the planet. At 240, Cain is built to go 25 minutes if necessary. I'm still a solid, Lesnar guy but even those close to Brock know that this fight will be a huge challenge for the UFC Heavyweight Champion. The good news for Lesnar fans, based on my past relationship with the former Golden Gopher, is that Brock loves a challenge. He actually thrives on them.
Are you thinking about the potential of a Silva-Sonnen rematch in 2011 as am I? Silva's "people" have strategically said that Sonnen really doesn't deserve a rematch which just adds fuel to the fire. The rematch will happen because their last outing is likely going to grossly overachieve original projections re: PPV buys and may even approach 800,000 plus. If that number is achieved, Silva-Sonnen 2, with all the hype of a potential TUF promotion could drive the rematch to north of a million buys. Insiders originally thought that Anderson-Chael 1 would do in the neighborhood of 300-400,00 buys.
The rematch is all speculation at this point but one thing that isn't is that Chael Sonnen sold the hell out of the first fight and his heart and passion made it one of the most compelling UFC PPV's ever. Sonnen knows how to sell PPV's while the same cannot be said of Anderson Silva which is taking nothing away from the Champion's Octagon abilities.
Ironically, I get emails and Tweets from wrestling fans who don't like it when I blog about UFC while some MMA purists would rather I not blog about 'their sport' because I've been so closely related to pro wrestling for so long. Even more irony is that many MMA fans are displaced pro wrestling fans of years gone by which adds to the conundrum.
Bottom line is that this is my blog and I will continue to write about things that interest me. Hopefully, those that log on will also be interested, more often than not.
BTW I grilled some chicken last night, food talk coming up, and used salt free, Montreal Chicken seasoning and a Montreal ground pepper and garlic grinder and that's it for the skinless, chicken breasts. Of course, at the end of the grill, I brushed on a little of JR's HOT BBQ sauce which put the grilled chicken into the main event slot. Keeping it simple is often times one's best route when cooking especially grilling.
BTW #2, I enjoyed the banter that I heard between Michael Cole and Josh Mathews on Tuesday night. I like the friction that they provide from time to time.
Thanks for your business and keep those orders coming. Every day is a great day to grill or to create your own recipes using our BBQ Sauces and Chipotle Ketchup. We're also selling a bunch of 97% Fat Free Beef Jerky. I think that I'll go have some now.
Boomer Sooner!
