Fighting Talk: Jack Swagger Bags The Swag
Posted: Jul 19th 2010 By: CMBurnham
It seems Jack Swagger isn't too bothered about winning and losing.
The young buck has sauntered his way to the top of the WWE and joins the ranks of the younger stars given a title run in recent months.
He literally climbed the ladder at Mania to win Money In The Bank, and snatched a world title two days later in the now customary heel fashion from a prostrate Chris Jericho.
Between March and June, Swagger held the belt and has his chance to reclaim it this weekend, ironically for him at a show entitled Money In The Bank.
Although WWE cannot be faulted for giving younger talent their place in the sun - Sheamus and Swagger are the main beneficiaries - commentators have questioned the booking during his stint on top.
Are WWE using the kids as caretakers for the belts while bigger stars are recuperating?
FT thinks not - Triple H is out beyond Summerslam as things stand, in case you were wondering.
Swagger says he doesn't care about the booking while he was champion.
"Hey - a title run is still a title run, whether you're booked strongly or not, " he said.
"I didn't really have a case for it at the end of the day - it's all business. I've still got the belt around my waist no matter how I'm booked.
"I just take it one day at a time and don't get overwhelmed. A friend of mine gave me great advice - just enjoy it as much as you can and do your best.
"You have to try to be as entertaining as possible, but realise it for what it is. I enjoy it."
Good for you, young man! This may well add weight to the alreadyswollen body of criticism that WWE world titles are just mere window dressing these days.
The bottom line is that it's all entertainment.
Swagger tells FT he was impressed with fellow All American and WWE alumni Brock Lesnar's defence of the altogether more prestigious UFC Heavyweight crown.
He added: "We were celebrating the 4th of July with my family.
"I thought the same as everyone else - that the ref would stop it in the first.
But then he came back and it was impressive." Indeed it was.
