Bobby Eaton Addresses Rumours About his Health
Posted: Sep 16th 2006 By: CMBurnham
There?s an all new edition of JG's Radio Free Insanity on the air and available for free download at www.WorldWrestlingInsanity.com. This week, host James Guttman is joined by Dr. Tom Prichard as they interview Beautiful Bobby Eaton.
James starts the show with talk about Beautiful Bobby Eaton?s ?health problems.? So many people report so many different things that it?s hard to know what is real and what isn?t. He says when he talked to Bobby, he expected him to be half dead based on recent reports. JG says he?s happy that he?ll be able to set the record straight along with Dr. Tom.
James then talks about Dr. Tom Prichard and his new weekly audio reports at ClubWWI.com titled ?Tuesdays With Tom.? Guttman says that Tom broke the story about Greg Gagne?s release from OVW in his update this week. He says that people ask him about the site?s policy on breaking news. JG explains they?re not looking to report news or break stories, but if something hasn?t been reported yet online and someone on the site knows about it, you could see it pop up in an audio report, column, or Raw Insanity. James talks about Gagne?s termination and how it was doomed from the start. He even references Greg?s own words in a recent WWE 24/7 piece on AWA wrestling to show how Gagne was in a bad position.
Speaking of a bad position, this week?s Radio Free Insanity is going up the day before Unforgiven so it?s tough to figure out what to talk about. He can?t preview Unforgiven, because it might be outdated by the time people hear it. He can?t review it either?because he?s not psychic. However, if you do hear the show before the PPV, JG reminds you that he?ll have an audio update after the show and WorldWrestlingInsanity.com?s Canadian Bulldog will be at the show live, conducting man-on-the-street interviews for ClubWWI.
From there, James talks about the recent comments Vince McMahon made about ECW. He mentions PWInsider.com?s report on VKM saying that the old ECW had ?no logic.? Guttman speaks on the irony of that statement and explains why Vince might have that opinion. JG brings up the wrestling bubble that the WWE has been living in and breaks it down to an example that many of us can understand. He also points to the new ECW and exposes a logical problem in some of their stories before doing the weekly reader-voted Moment of Insanity.
Once Part Two begins, James sets up the interview with Dr. Tom Prichard and Bobby Eaton. He says the unedited interview is up at ClubWWI.com, along with the unedited interviews from Bobby Heenan and Orlando Jordan as well as the Radio Free Insanity archives. From there, Guttman cues up the interview.
James welcomes Beautiful Bobby Eaton and Dr. Tom Prichard to the show. Bobby says ?thanks for having me? and Tom replies, ?Thanks for being had, Bobby.?
James Guttman begins by asking Bobby about his health. He says that there have been reports ranging from ?Bobby Eaton fell down and stubbed his toe? to ?Bobby Eaton is ready to be dressed in a suit and put in a box.? He asks Eaton what the real story is. Bobby says he?s heard the rumors and appreciates the opportunity to come on the show and explain the real story. He says that he had felt light-headed recently and had trouble catching his breath. Some friends recommended that he go to the emergency room. He did and they found he had high blood pressure and at his age, it can become a problem.
Dr. Tom Prichard jumps in and says that it could also be because Bobby spends so much time training people and working in the ring. He tells Eaton that ?for 86 years old, you don?t look so bad.? Bobby says he?s only 85.
Guttman wants to clarify the reports from the internet and asks Bobby if he had a heart attack. Eaton says ?no.? He explains that he thought he had the flu and had some aches. When he went to the doctor he found he had high blood pressure and a touch of diabetes, but he?s not a full blown diabetic. So he watches what he eats and drinks and he?ll be OK. JG sarcastically says it?s surprising to hear he has high blood pressure in the wrestling business considering that it?s such a laid back industry.
James mentions that when Bobby ?The Brain? Heenan was on the show, he talked about the support from fans and colleagues. He asks Eaton about support he got and Bobby says that when he was recovering, Dr. Tom came to see him and wrote him a poem. Prichard laughs and says that he wrote it on the back of one of his pictures so he can look at it and read it all at the same time. Eaton says that people had concern although some didn?t know the full story. Prichard brings up Richard Pryor from years ago after his fire accident. Richard said he was watching the news and saw that he had died and he screamed ?No! No!? It?s that way with Eaton.
Dr. Tom says the internet has a way of embellishing things. Suddenly, Tom says ?Oh sh*t? because he?s driving and ?nearly died.? JG says that now the we?ve cleared the Beautiful Bobby rumor, the story can be that Tom Prichard died during an episode of Radio Free Insanity. Dr. Tom calls Bobby?s situation ?the whisper game.? Someone tells something to somebody else and by the end, ?Bobby was hooked up to five different machines 20 different times.? Tom says that Eaton looked good when he saw him, although he?s not sure how he looks today. He asks Bobby if he combed his hair today and he responds, ?I probably look better than you, Tom.?
Guttman mentions how Bobby has already returned to the ring. Eaton says he went to the ring, but didn?t do all that much. He says he doesn?t like sitting around. He made the trip 300 miles with his mother, sister, two nieces, and his daughter with no radio. Prichard says ?Woooo. That must have been a fun time?. I bet your blood pressure stayed real even then.? Bobby says that when they went to the restroom with five females and one stall, it took a while. Tom replies ?They used a stall!?? James then says about the trip, ?That?s like having a headache and then slamming yourself in the head with a concrete block when you come out of the doctor?s office.?
JG says it must be weird to hear rumors about your own health and asks Bobby if people have been approaching him with concerns. Eaton says that when he was waiting for James to call, he went across the street and the guy who runs the TV station came out and said, ?Are you OK? What are you doing out here?? Bobby said, ?I?m fine, man.? He says it?s just the way things happen in life. You start off with something small and then they have you on your death bed.
Guttman tells Bobby that he wanted both he and Prichard on at the same time since they spent so much time working together in the past. Eaton says he?s known Tom for 20 years and when his son was born in Nashville, he and Dr. Tom went out for beers. Prichard and Beautiful Bobby then tell a story about driving for 250 miles with no headlights. Tom calls it ?something that should have killed Beautiful Bobby Eaton 20 years ago.?
James brings up the infamous Midnight Express Scaffold Match at Night of the Skywalkers. Bobby says it was the worst match of his career, yet everyone remembers it. He says that in Hell in a Cell or TLC, there?s so much you can do, but in a scaffold match, you have nowhere to go. Eaton says he didn?t care for the scaffold match. Bobby says:
?No one remembers if you had a 60 minute match with Ric Flair for instance. They remember the scaffold match.?
Tom then responds:
?Bobby, the remember the scaffold match because of the personalities involved.?
The exclusive interview continued on and can be heard unedited at ClubWWI.com. Bobby and Tom also talk about Jim Cornette, working Smokey Mountain Wrestling, the tag team wrestling scene and much more.
JG's Radio Free Insanity is always free and always on the air every weekend. James Guttman's book, World Wrestling Insanity, is available at www.WorldWrestlingInsanity.com/buybook.htm or wherever books are sold.
