One Down, One to Go? Aaron Neil No Longer a Tag Team Champion

One Down, One to Go? Aaron Neil No Longer a Tag Team Champion

Posted: Sep 12th 2006 By: CMBurnham

The Real Impact Players (IZW Champion Aaron Neil and his long-time tag team partner Se7en) gained the MSWA Mid-South Tag Team Title back on February and had dominated the tag team division in MSWA, but that 7-month title reign came to an end last Friday in a most unglorious way.

Neil came to the ring with the MSWA Mid-South Tag Team belts and, as has been regular for the past few shows, began to make excuses for why his partner wasn't at the shows and why there would be no Tag Team Title defence at this show. But Neil was shut down by MSWA commissioner Halo, who entered the ring and said he was tired of hearing Neil's excuses. Neil has said that Se7en was doing charity work, autograph signings and basically used every excuse in the world to hide behind his partner's absence, but the truth of the matter, according to Halo, was that Se7en had abandoned his partner and essentially forefeited his half of the tag team championship. Oklafan did some investigation and discovered this was indeed true. Se7en had a difference of opinion with the Oklahoma Boxing Commission and chose not to renew his liscence, making him ineligible to compete in the state.

In an effort to be fair, Halo told Neil that if he could find a partner by the time of the main event that night, he would be allowed to compete for the tag team titles. Otherwise, they would be awarded to the Patriots. It looked like Neil had made his choice, although it was a strange one. Neil came out during the match featuring Michael Barry (making his debut in MSWA) and Alexander Lucas (making his wrestling debut) with a pad and pen, making several notes. Neil and Barry have been feuding over the IZW Title down in Lawton and were scheduled for a title match at their big supershow on September 16, but could it be that they were going to put aside their differences and work together as a tag team? That proved not to be true, but it did give Neil an excellent opportunity to scout Barry for their match later this week.

When the time for the match came, Neil came out to the ring by himself and called out his mystery partner, but no partner emerged. He then went back and literally dragged the partner, who was revealed to be Alexander Lucas, to the ring. Lucas stood on the ring apron, looking completely scared for almost the entire match while Neil tried to take on Bad Boy & AACW Champion Glen Steel by himself. Ultimately, this proved to be a futile exercise and the Patriots captured the tag team gold.

This strips Neil of his double-champion status in Oklahoma. Glen Steel now joins Rocco Valentino and The Prophet as the only men to currently hold 2 titles simultaneously. Might Neil become a ex-champion in IZW as well? Results from the IZW show will be posted early next week as soon as they're available.
