A Change In SWCW

A Change In SWCW

Posted: Jun 25th 2010 By: CMBurnham

Is it possible that a change is soon to be made in Sooner World Class Wrestling?

How do you define the word "Heavyweight"? When looking through most title historys on Oklafan.com, ou will notice that most of the men who have made it to the top exceeded three hundred pounds. In SWCW, Acting Comissioner Shawn McKeaigg has ruled that Heavyweight is defined as a singles wrestler who is larger than a Cruiserweight. The Cruiserweights must weigh under 220 lbs. If they exceed the weight limit they are automatically Heavyweight contenders.

For example, The man who has reached the record breaking four times as SWCW champion is none other than "The Monster" 3rd Rail.

Rail weighs well over 400 pounds and when you combine the lengths of every title reign he held the Heavyweight belt at Sooner for well over a year's time.

Example two: "The Annihilator" Draven Cross. At 460 pounds, the annihilator held the ComPro Championship for one year and six days.

On June 5th, history was made when a new Heavyweight champion was crowned. For the first time in over a year the Heavyweight champ weighs in at less than 250 lbs. His name is"'The Gunshow" Rick Russo. In a Triple Threat match Russo defied the odds when he risked being nearly squashed by almost a half ton of wrestling "talent." He defeated not only 3rd Rail, but he also beat Draven Cross.

I believe this could be the dawn of a new age in pro wrestling. Smaller, faster superstars can make it to the top, and Russo is proof. I believe a smaller, faster champion will help develop prestige in The heavyweight Division.

A larger man might be a better Heavyweight, But courage, heart, and will can get you anywhere in this business no matter how big you are.

The young stars in SWCW who could some day be your champion all thrive to be the best at what they do and some day maybe they're dreams being top dog will come true.

"The Gunshow" Rick Russo will make his first title defense June 26 at a special event held outside the Underground Arena. The show will begin at 6:30 pm 227 SW 25th St, Oklahoma City, OK
