Having Your Cake Pt 2: Stevie Caballero

Having Your Cake Pt 2: Stevie Caballero

Posted: Jun 12th 2010 By: CMBurnham

In yesterday's article, we looked at the humiliation of Mike Iles when his face was slammed into a celebration cake at the MWA event on June 4. Mike wasn't the only person to end up on the receiving end of a cake this past weekend. Stevie Caballero will have a reason to remember the first event at ComPro's new home as he also received more than he bargained for due to dessert issues.

The previous night, Caballero ended the 7 month MWA Tag Team Title reign of the Old School Express when his Foreign Legion of Boris Saarikoski & ComPro Tag Team & TAP Oklahoma Heritage Champion Dutch Hagen took the belts in a Capture the Flag Match. The match was contested under Tornado Rules and it certainly appeared that a Tornado had hit the place after everything was done. Action inside and outside of the ring made it nearly impossible to to follow everything that was going on, but the final moments came down to in-ring action between Saarikoski & Jake Boulder. While Hagen & Jason Jones battled up the rampway and to the Butcback, Caballero put Boulder through a table and then climbed the turnbuckles to lift the combined flags of Russia & Luxembourg, waving it high for everyone to see. By doing so, Caballero once again saw gold in his possession, something that he'd been without since the OSE had defeated Texas, Inc. for those very same tag team belts. After the match was over, Hagen returned to the ring to celebrate the win and continue the beat down on an isolated Boulder. Jones also returned to try and save his partner, but he had obviously been weakened in his confrontation backstage and was little help in the matter. Saarikoski then chokeslammed Boulder and the new Tag Team Champions continued pummelling the fallen crowd heroes until Butch Reed ran down the ramp and made the save. Reed had been a special invited guest to the MWA event and had briefly spoken to the crowd earlier, but he had tight connections with both Jones and Boulder and couldn't stand to see them unable to defend themselves. After the deceitful trio made their way from the ring area, Reed informed ring announcer Bud Guffey that he wanted to face the tag team champions in a 6-man Tag Team Main Event with the OSE at the next MWA event on September 3rd. Guffey believed that would be possible as long as the Legion found itself a partner and as yet an announcement about that has not been revealed.

The next night, ComPro made it's debut at Perfect Practice, it's new home in Tulsa. And Tim Rockwell decided to mark the occassion by presenting Caballero with an early birthday cake. In previous years, Caballero has attempted to have a celebration of his birthday at the most timely ComPro event, but it always seems to go wrong. On the first such occasion, Justin Lee superkicked the cake into Caballero's face. The year after that, ComPro ring announcer Jamie shoved a cupcake that Draven Cross had brought out into Stevie's face because he called her "a monkey". So it would be understandable that Caballero was reluctant to appear when Rockwell announced that he had a cake for Stevie.

After Rockwell's announcement, Caballero made his way to the ring area, but his paranoia was in full effect as he asked Rockwell if the cake was going to explode. After being assured that the cake was safe and non-poisonous, Caballero produced a fork and proceded to eat his present while sitting at the announce table. Several fans at ringside asked him why he carried a fork with him and he replied that he was a close personal friend of Abdullah the Butcher. While Caballero devoured the delicious dessert, Rockwell made quick work of Cobra Kai, then scooted outside to talk with Stevie. Rockwell can't resist and, as Caballero has a mouth full of cake, Tim shoves Stevie's face into the birthday cake. The crowd was elated and Rockwell left celebrating that he had gotten one more over on his former associate. Caballero removed his face from the cake, cleared off his sunglasses and said that this type of thing happened "every year" before gathering himself and walking to the back to prepare for the main event.

Even though he had just been embarassed, Caballero still had a job to do as he accompanied the ComPro Champion Richie Adams to the ring for his title defence against the Canadian Red Devil. The match was back and forth and several fans took it upon themselves to taunt Caballero about the cake, but he replied that he seemed to have lost his appetite. Eventually, Caballero's other charge, Sam Stackhouse, made his way to the match and shoved Mr. Haney (who had accompanied CRD) out of the way. Sam entered the ring, but was met by the Devil, who traded blows with Sam and battled him back to the ropes. As referee Chance Snodgrass tried to get Sam out of the ring, Adams low-blowed CRD, then schoolboyed him and pulled the tights for the win. Sam and Adams then double-teamed CRD until Shane Morbid came to the rescue. While Sam and the Devil battled to the back, Morbid began to execute some revenge on the person who took the ComPro Title from him. After the two had beaten each other mercilessly in the ring, ComPro owner Mike Two emerged, ordering a stop to their actions and setting up next month's main event, which would see Caballero's duo of Sam Stackhouse and Richie Adams face Shane Morbid and The Canadian Red Devil. Caballero continued to run his mouth at Morbid, who called him a "Mr. Rogers knockoff", but finally Morbid threatened physical violence and Caballero ran for the hills.

Caballero had plenty of time to prepare his charges for their match. Stackhouse held his own well against Morbid in the opening match on June 5, but wasn't able to gain a win despite a near tragic move by Morbid that saw him go for a suicide plancha and not quite clear the top rope, resulting in a crash and burn that nearly broke his neck. Caballero will certainly be studying tape of that match as well as the main event in an effort to prepare his charges for this opportunity. With Morbid as the strongest challenger for the ComPro Title, if Caballero expects to keep it under his control, he's going to have to be prepared.

At least this time he can be assured that he won't be wiping cake out of his eyes during the match.
