Obsession Drives Luchadore To Desperate Actions

Obsession Drives Luchadore To Desperate Actions

Posted: Mar 12th 2010 By: CMBurnham

One month ago, the nightmare began for the Canadian Luchadore.

It was February 13, 2010 that saw Bobby Star upset the masked star for the ComPro Oklahoma X Division Title. The Luchadore had fought for most of 2009 to claim that title, but was caught by surprise after only 2 months as champion thanks in part to some assistance from Star?s tag team partner Chris Chaos. Luchadore then began to sink into a dark place and it seems that the only way he can get out is to regain his title.

Normally, this would just be another competitive series between two skilled athletes, but the obsession that the Luchadore has for the title is crossing into dangerous territory as it seems he is willing to go to extreme lengths to take his belt back.

On February 27, the Luchadore returned to ComPro after taking a week to recuperate from his loss. He found himself in a match against The Masked Martyr. The Martyr had the presence of The Shadow of Death at ringside, but that didn?t stop Luchie from taking out his pent-up aggression on the masked newcomer. As the match progressed, it became increasingly obvious that the Luchadore was not in his right mind, as he referred to the Martyr as ?Bobby Star? before lacing into him with punishing blows. A full-scale physical assault followed on the Martyr and no matter what protests The Shadow of Death made towards the referee, it served no purpose. Eventually, Luchie locked in a rear-naked choke on the Martyr and the referee called for a break. The Luchadore was unwilling to make that break by the count of five and he was disqualified. But the Luchadore just didn?t care as he continued to apply the choke and envision the Martyr as Bobby Star. Even when Sensei Bolo entered the ring and begged the Luchadore to break, he didn?t want to do it. Finally, Luchie relented, then grabbed the microphone and said that he was coming for Bobby Star.

The next week, the Luchadore received a title shot. But it wasn?t at the title he was focused on. Instead, Luchie was presented with an opportunity to wrest the ComPro Showtime Title from Ignition. Again, the Luchadore appeared unhealthily focused on Bobby Star, as he told the crowd that he had asked for a shot at the Oklahoma X Division Title, but Star hadn?t shown up. This was true, as Star was instead appearing at the SWCW show, taking up for the rookies in the business by facing Outlaw in a ?Pay Your Dues? match, which he won by DQ. While that was happening, Luchadore faced off against Ignition, whose manager Boss Campbell tried to avoid the title defence by suggesting to the referee that, since the Luchadore didn?t want the Showtime Title, he shouldn?t have to defend it. But the stipulation on the title says that it must be defended at every ComPro show and the referee ignored the pleadings of the self-proclaimed ?Brookside Bad Boy?.

As should be expected, the Luchadore gave his all in the match. And despite the incredible success that Ignition has had since becoming champion, it seemed that this might be the night that he let the precious title slip from his grasp. But again, the Luchadore?s obsession with Star once again reared its ugly head. As in the week before, the Luchadore locked a rear-naked choke on Ignition and once again refused to heed referee Chance Snodgrass? demands to break it. This cost him the match and his chance at the title, but the Luchadore didn?t seem to care.

When the Luchadore wouldn?t break the hold, Ignition?s brother, TAP Champion Reckless, jumped in the ring and the Saints of Twilight began to double team the Luchadore until the Canadian Red Devil and Evan Newcastle both came to his rescue. At the height of the chaos in the ring, ComPro owner Mike Two arrived to take control. First, he addressed the Devil, who had lost a title opportunity to Newcastle in the opening match of the show. Mike Two said that Boss Campbell and Reckless both enjoyed taking advantage of the referee, outthinking and outnumbering him. So, for the Showtime Championship match at Night of Champions XIX, there needed to be a special referee. One that had experience with duplicitous individuals like Campbell and the SOTs. And that person was going to be?the Canadian Red Devil!! The crowd seemed happy with that and Mike Two sent him away before dealing with his New Canada partner.

Mike Two said that it was obvious over the past couple of weeks that Luchie had broken rules, but it was no secret that Bobby Star had done the same thing. In FACT, if it hadn?t been for an illegal handful of tights, Star wouldn?t be the champion to begin with. So, since both men wanted to take things to the next level in their matches, Mike Two was going to indulge them. He declared that the Oklahoma X Division Title match at Night of Champions XIX would be a No Holds Barred match. If Star wanted to pull tights, he?d be able to. If the Luchadore wanted to choke Star out, he could. But when the smoke cleared, there would be a clear-cut winner and no disputed decision would be allowed to stand.

Mike Two seems to have set things up so that the issue will be resolved between these two men, but one of the larger questions involves if both men can survive this match. Normally, a No Holds Barred steps up the physical requirements, but when the obsession over the Oklahoma X Division Title is factored in, it?s possible that one man (or both) may cross a line that they can?t come back over, whether they?re champion or not.
