Charlotte's Ric Flair, an icon in the professional wrestling world, is coming out of retirement tonight for a televised match against another legendary name.
Flair is scheduled to face Hulk Hogan, in a Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) match at 9 p.m. on Spike TV. That is channel 44 for Time-Warner cable customers in the Charlotte area.
Flair and Hogan are among a number of current or retired pro wrestlers who will participate in the TNA matches, to be carried at 9 p.m. on alternating Mondays on Spike TV. Others include Sting, Mick Foley, Kurt Angle and A. J. Styles.
"I just missed the business, and they created a very nice opportunity for me," said Flair, a 16-time world champion who lives in south Charlotte.
Flair survived a 1975 plane crash that left him with a broken back, and he has suffered a number of other injuries. He also wrote a book, "To Be the Man," and has released a DVD that recounts his career in pro wrestling.
