Mr. Saturday Night escapes with the title again

Mr. Saturday Night escapes with the title again

Posted: Feb 9th 2010 By: mikeiles

They say there is safety in numbers. That has easily been the case for MWA Heavyweight Champion Michael Barry. He always has the numbers in his favor. He always seems to have his Excellence Personified team mates at his side to save him from peril. But after the shenanigans pulled this past Friday, the numbers game may come to a halt.

The first encounter Barry had with Jeff Starchild occurred on October 9, 2009 and Starchild upset Barry in an impromptu match. Barry claimed he was not prepared and had just wrestled an opponent prior to the impromptu match.

The next month, Starchild had to defeat Barry's prot?ge Lars Manderson to receive a title shot. Starchild won the match but was attacked by EP members The Jet Setters afterward. Starchild was in no shape to compete later that night and Barry picked up an easy victory.

On December 4th, Barry and The Jet Setters faced Starchild and the MWA Tag Team Champions The Old School Express with an added stipulation that whoever picked up the pinfall would get a title shot of their choosing. Starchild pinned Barry after some miscommunication between Barry and Manderson.

This past Friday in the opening match, Dustin Heritage defeated Jason Jones with some assistance from Jack Legacy. Later when Legacy was facing Jake Boulder, Heritage became involved in the match several times. This prompted MWA Director of Operations Mike Iles to come out and eject Heritage from ringside. This distracted Legacy and Boulder rolled him up for the win. EP then got on the microphone and after announcing that they had fired Lars Manderson, they demanded that Iles explain his actions. He said that he saw Heritage interfering and was going to make things right. He then said that The Jet Setters were banned from being lumberjacks in the main event of the evening between Barry and Starchild.

The number were finally not in Barry's favor in the Lumberjack Match, Without The Jet Setters or Lars Manderson at his side, he was alone. The young Starchild had the fans on his side and was bound and determined to show everyone he was the next star of the show. The lumberjacks did their job and did not get involved in the match. Until El Matadors entered the ring and attacked Starchild. They removed their masks and revealed themselves as The Jet Setters. Michael Barry and Excellence Personified had outsmarted everyone yet again.

How much longer can Michael Barry continue to outsmart everyone? It was announced at the end of intermission that the MWA Heavyweight Title will be defended on March 5th in a Steel Cage Match. In that match, a special enforcer has been appointed to ensure no chicanery. The special enforcer will be Max McGuirk and he and Barry had a few choice words with one another at the end of the Lumberjack Match. Will Barry hold on to the title in the cage? Come to the March 5th show and find out.
