(Tampa, FL) - Brian Blair, Republican running for Florida State House in 2010, has received an endorsement that observers say could be integral to his chances of winning the seat he's pursuing.
Blair picked up support from the Florida State Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), through the lodge's president, James Preston.
"I am extremely honored to have this endorsement," Blair said in a statement. "I have always made public safety and our 'first responders' a priority, as my past voting record reflects," Blair added.
"I look forward to working hard to make sure that our citizens have well equipped, happy, productive first responders who will ensure their safety."
Preston, a retired police sergeant, cited Blair's strong voting record while a Hillsborough County Commissioner as a persuasive argument for the lodge's endorsement.
"Your continued strong support for national security and public safety has been demonstrated by your actions on behalf of law enforcement, fire and emergency responders," Preston said in a recent letter to Blair's campaign.
"You have stated that public safety would be a 'top priority' and you've kept your word."
Blair is seeking District 47's seat, which is being vacated by Republican Kevin Ambler. The primary is August 24, 2010.
"Our first responders can continue to count on me to be there for all reasonable requests, as I'm very proud of our men and women who wear their uniforms with honor," Blair also said in his statement.
Brian Blair lives in Tampa with his wife, Toni. The Blairs have been married for 23 years and have two children-Brett, 17, and Bradley, 14.
