4.Hillbilly says "She Got The Goldmine [I Got The Shaft]" reminds him of "Smokey & The Bandit" with Reed & Burt Reynolds. He says he recently saw the movie "Talladega Nights", says he laughed his can off & says that's the funniest thing he's ever seen. He says it's a movie about NASCAR racing that he enjoyed, says it's also about a disfunctional family that pulls it all together like his family in Mud Lick, KY. He says this week & every week, you're all a part of his family & says after his show [as he says it]:"TheManOfTheHour, TheManWithThePower" is "Capt. Jack" [Cowboy Jack] Clement's show:
http://tinyurl.com/bsxrx .
Hillbilly says if Clement & Alamo Jones can't get it done, then it can't be done & says he'll warm his show up. He says he'll now play a song that was a hit years ago, but it'll fit on your Sirius stereo radio. He says if you're driving, watch out for the "Po-Leese".
5.Plays Thin Lizzy's "The Boys Are Back In Town", David Allen Coe's "Son Of The South" & George Jones' "I'm Ragged But I'm Right".
6.Hillbilly says he was talking with some friends recently about the JonBenet Ramsey case, says years ago people were suspicious if the parents had anything to do with it & says they may've now found the suspect [John Mark Karr]. He says people thought this was like the "Did OJ [Simpson] do it or not" case, then plugs his email hillbillyjim@sirius-radio.com & his toll free
request line 877-33-SIRIUS & press #63. He says after the break, he'll be talking via phone the director Brian Harrison about the DVD "Heroes Of World Class:The Story Of The Von Erichs & The Rise & Fall Of World Class Championship Wrestling".
7.Plays Fats Domino's "Ain't That A Shame", Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Green River", John Anderson's "Black Sheep" & George Thorogood's "Bad To The Bone".
8.Hillbilly says later on he'll talk about Verne Gagne on his "Backstage Pass" who was recently inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame & he'll also have Mandoberg on the show also. He introduces director Brian Harrison [via phone] who directed the WCCW DVD, says Brian's got a great movie about the World Class documentary DVD & asks Brian as to what made him put
together & how long did it take to do so. Brian thanks Hillbilly for letting him come on his show which he says it's an honor, says it took him about 4 years to make the movie. Brian says he started at about 2001, says he used to watch the [WCCW] show when he was 10 out of Chicago & he didn't know this at the time but that show was one of the 1st shows that had syndication when cable TV started to break in. Brian says people were just starting to syndicate shows nationwide & World Class was one of the 1st shows to do so & to gain real popularity. He says they were just a small Dallas territory that had a handful of stars that became worldwide celebrities & says before you knew it, as soon as they hit their Apex of popularity, strings of tragedies started happening. He says several of their main stars died horribly, says again he was 10 watching this happen & says that always stayed with him. Hillbilly says at that time he was in the WWF, says all in WWF was seeing all that unfold because WWF was just taking off like
gangbusters. Hillbilly says the whole thing in Dallas was just amazing with a small territory run by the Von Erichs. He asks Brian to tell fans about the Von Erich family, Brian says Fritz
Von Erich was a wrestler from the 50's, 60's & 70's who decided to bine into the Dallas
territory with a small promotion that was part of the NWA or National Wrestling Alliance. He says in the late 70's, Fritz brought his 3 oldest boys David, Kevin, & Kerry into the business, says they became stars beyond Fritz's wild imagination with no small part with the [TV] show that he started in '81, which was "World Class Championship Wrestling". He says they
became stars worldwide & were huge celebrities overseas. Brian again says he watched them in Chicago, says the Sportatorium held about 4,000 to 5,000 fans in Dallas where they taped their weekly show, was as big as Madison Square Garden to him when he was sitting at home & watching it. He says they became huge stars & says they were short of the franchise players in the promotion. Hillbilly says he's viewed the entire DVD & he's giving you the "Hillbilly Jim Seal Of Approval" by saying that he's viewed it 2 times with a couple of buddies. He says it's completely & legitimately on the money from everything he knows & says the fans should check this out. He tells Brian to hold on because he has to play some tunes & then they'll return to talk about the "meats & potatoes" of this great movie.
9.Plays the Stray Cat's "Stray Cat Strut", Doug Sahm & Friends' "Poison Love" & Johnny Horton's "North To Alaska".
10.Hillbilly again plugs his email & toll free request line, asks if Brian's still on the & Brian says yes. He tells Brian that this is an interesting movie that he's done, says it's done so well & tastefully. He tells fans to check out some of the commentary by some of the amazing managers & mentions the one that used to manage The Great Kabuki & it's "Playboy" Gary Hart. He says Gary was a star who looked insightful & did an amazing job, he then asks Brian to talk about others that were in WCCW that became stars & says some of them did well but others didn't. Brian says it's like a "who's who" in the wrestling business & says there was Kabuki, Kamala [then as Kimala] & The Missing Link [Dewey Robertson]. Brian says later on was Shawn Michaels & Rick Rude getting their starts there, also says Steve Austin, Mick Foley & Undertaker [then known as Mark Callous] all got their start there. He says during the time of World Class there was a bunch of stars like Big John Studd, King Kong Bundy [1st as Big Daddy Bundy & later King Kong Bundy], The Ultimate Warrior [as The Dingo Warrior]. He mentions the Freebirds [Micheal "PS" Hayes, Terry Gordy & Buddy Roberts] were also from there, Hillbilly says he wants to talk about one of his iconic figures Bruiser Brody, says he had a tragic ending & tells Brian that he nicely worked into the DVD [chapter 26] with him dying in Puerto Rico. Hillbilly asked Brian if that was something to have that Brody footage & asked if he
viewed lots of it, Brian says yes & says he's been watching Brody since he was 5 with his dad. He says from what he's heard about Brody, he was a nice guy who didn't take any gut from anyone. He says Brody was a good man & says it was important for him to do a Brody tribute & to let some of Brody's friends say their recollections & memories of not only his career, but where
they were & how it impacted to hear about Brody's horrible death. Hillbilly asks Brian to let fans know as to where they can get this DVD, Brian says go on www.rightherepictures.com. Brian says it's on sale now, it's getting great reviews & he's very excited as to how things are going. He says if you've ever been a wrestling fan & interested in an unbelievable story that you can't write a script about, this is definetly the one. Hillbilly says the truth's stranger then fiction, says
he was there when it was all going on & knows it to be true. He tells Brian that he's not saying that he'll get lots of awards [for the DVD], but he should get lots of rewards for the movie because Brian's done himself a favor & says it's a great movie. Brian says he appreciates that, Hillbilly says he appreciates him & asks to have him back on his show again if he has anything to talk about. Brian says he's now working on getting the DVD out to the public & will let him know if another project comes along. Hillbilly says he'll play a song for him from a legendary
Texas singer [Freddy Fender] who's not doing so well. He says this guy's an iconic figure in the music business.
11.Plays Freddy Fender's "Before The Next Teardrop Falls", Dusty Rhodes' Hillbilly Jim promo, Johnny Cash's "I Won't Back Down" & The Band's "Long Black Veil".
12.Hillbilly says "Long Black Veil" has been recorded by Johnny Cash, Bruce Springsteen & others, says it was great having Harrison via phone on the show talking about the WCCW DVD & again plugs the site on where to order it. He again says he'll talk about Verne Gagne on his
"Backstage Pass" segment later on & then says while he was at Sturgis [at the "Rock 'N' Rally event: www.rockntherally.com ], he saw this Australian band [Wolfmother] perform.
13.Plays Wolfmother's "Joker & The Thief", BR5-49's "1 Long Saturday Night", Joe Ely's Outlaw Country promo, Joe Ely's "The Road Goes On Forever" & The Kentucky Headhunters' "Oh Lonesome Me".
14.Hillbilly plugs the Summerslam PPV & says to call your cable company because you might see some surprises on that show. He then mentions another band [Georgia Satellites] that he saw on his recent trip to Sturgis.
15.Plays Georgia Satellites' "Keep Your Hands To Yourself", Dwight Yoakam's "Train
In Vain", Billy Joe Shaver's Outlaw Country promo, Billy Joe Shaver's "Mother Trucker" & Little Feat's "Dixie Chicken".
16.Hillbilly says "Dixie Chicken" is cool today as it was then & says after the break he'll bring in Mandoberg on the show. He again plugs Clement's show that follows his & says he'll play 1 of his songs that he wrote many years ago.
17.Plays Cowboy Jack Clement's "Ballad Of A Teenage Queen", Elvis Presley's "Little Sister", Merle Haggard's "Honky Tonk Night Time Man" & Bruce Springsteen's "Jesse James".
18.Hillbilly says that was the Boss, again plugs his email & toll free request line & introduces [as he says it]: "TheManOfTheHour, TheManWithThePower, TheManThat'sTooSweetToBeSour" Uncle Percy Mandoberg [via phone] & says it's good to hear from him. Percy says this is coming on his time of the year, says August is ending & September starts & he knows
that's his time of the year when hunting season gets going. Hillbilly says he knows that he's getting out his gear & will be getting some fine fixins for the fall. Percy says yes & says this weekend's the 3rd Saturday in August & says in Kentucky, that's the 1st day of squirrel season. Hillbilly says he knows he'll be out there hunting for them, Percy says yes & asks him
if he'll be with him this Friday night at the squirrel fest. Hillbilly says it's the 1st annual squirrel fest that he's been invited to Percy's house, says he'll bring his guitar & will have squirrel, some garden vegetables & maybe some cornbread. He asks Percy if he'll make them nice peach
cobblers, Percy says yes & Hillbilly asks him if he'll have a "to go" pack when he's there.
Percy says maybe but he'll have to fight his good friend & songwriter Pat Haney, Hillbilly says he's the guy that does the song "Come On Back To Bowling Green & Marry Me"& Percy says yes. Hillbilly asks him as to what's happening in the hunting & fishing world nationwide, Percy says he got a call this morning from some of his buddies in Texas who tell him that the water's 85 degrees & almost 5 feet low. He says the whole southern part of the country's dry this year, says the black bass are biting good off of shallow point & putting cedars on what's called "sinkos" & soft plastics. He says the crop heat's doing OK on minnows & jugs & says lots of them are about 25 foot deep. He says the white bass are good on shad baits on shallow points & the blue cats are bitting real good & this is their time of the year. He says that's what's happening in Texas & says their horseshoeing buddy Bob in Richmond, Kentucky is up in Lake "Errie" [that's what it sounded like to me]. Percy says Bob's catching "wall line" &
"small mouth", says next week he'll have a report of how things are doing on that. Hillbilly says he can't wait to taste some of them because he knows Bob's giving them some of them, says he'll play a song for Percy because later on he's got a couple of questions to ask him. He asks Percy if he's got a recipe for the fans & Percy says yes.
19.Plays Arlo Guthrie's "Talking Fishing Blues", Red Foley's "Hillbilly Fever", Bobby Bare's Outlaw Country promo, Hank Williams' "Move It On Over" & Kris Kristofferson's "The Best Of All Possible Worlds".
20.Hillbilly asks Percy if he's still there & Percy says yes so Hillbilly asks him as to what's going on in the hunting world. He says he knows about squirrel season coming up & wants to know as to what's coming up after that, Percy says dove season starts after 9/1 & says everyone's thinking that they're making jokes about squirrel hunting, but says he's hunted in lots of places on lots of animals & says there's nothing more fun than the 1st day of squirrel season by hunting them with a 22 in the hickernut trees on the hills & hollers in Kentucky & Tennessee. He thinks Tennessee's season starts the same day as Kentucky. Percy says he remembers growing up & remembers it being his favorite day of the year, says he didn't sleep the night before
squirrel season started. Hillbilly says that's a magical time when a young boy goes out in the woods & hunts, then asks Percy as to how much "father & son time" did he spend in the forrest with his son Spike. He says he knows the Mandobergs' are a mighty close knitfit, Percy says that's true & has enjoyed raising Spike, says Spike's a special kid & don't think he's seen much concrete till Hillbilly gave him the job at Sirius. He says Spike's a natural, but the hunting & fishing is when Spike was little, he was good to picking up birds better then the birddog that he's got now. Hillbilly says Spike never got them with his teeth & wasn't supposed to retrieve them
with his mouth & says Percy trained Spike like a dog. Percy tells a funny story about Spike as to 1 time he & Spike were fishing in the days before people knew better, says back then you'd put a "hand crank" phone in the water with the wire where you'd shock the fish. Hillbilly asks Percy if that's now illegal to do, Percy says yes but in those days people didn't know anything about that. He said the phone wouldn't work when they're in a dry hole with no fish floating up, says Uncle Joe & he told Spike asked him if he's hot. He says Spike being a little feller said yeah & told Spike to take a little swim. Percy says they had to test the phone on Spike & says he came out of the water when they started shocking him & says you'd never seen anything like it. Hillbilly says there's a story going around that everyone says that Spike looks like he was pulled before he's riped, says he's making up for it because Spike can put away some viddles.
He then asks Percy if he'd get him, Percy & Spike tickets to the upcoming Rolling Stones show in Louisville at the end of September at the Churchill Downs. Percy says they haven't seen them since 2002 & would love to do that, Hillbilly tells Percy to put that in his crawl & think about it & asks him to give out a recipe for the fans. Percy says this is a little different for Hillbilly & says everyone worldwide knows how to make either tuna salad or chicken salad. He says the other day, corrects himself & says late last year he had a bunch of squirrels & tells as to how he does this unnamed squirrel recipe:
1.Put the squirrels in a "crock pot" & cook them in it all day & as soon you take them out of the "crock pot", wash them down in cold water.
2.Then strip all the [squirrel] meat off the bones & make a salad as if you're making tuna or chicken salad.
3.Add a little bit of onion & pepper in there where the squirrels are good
Percy says it's no fat, no cholesterol & says it's so good that folks out there are rolling their eyes but if you try it, you won't go back to eating tuna salad again. Hillbilly says that's coming from the mouth & expert Uncle Percy Mandoberg, tells him that he appreciates him coming on his show & giving him reports on everything & asks him if he'd like to say hello to anyone. Percy
says yes & it's to someone named "The Commander", says he's been missing him for a couple of weeks due to a family tragedy of his mama passed away. He says he misses him, says he's a bright spot in his life even though he's a [as he says it] a "cantankerous" bright spot. He says he wants to tell him welcome back & glad he's back on the road. Hillbilly in honor of that, he wants to play a song for the old commander, tells Percy that he'll talk to him next week & Percy
says yes.
21.Plays Foghat's "Slow Ride", Dick Curless' "Big Wheel Cannonball", Commander Cody & His Lost Planet Air's "Looking At The World Through A Windshield".
22.Hillbilly says he's had Percy Mandoberg & Brian Harrison earlier on his show & has had a wonderful time, but says he ain't done yet. He says this next song's from an iconic man [John Prine] who's one of the greatest songwriters & performers of our time or any time. He says the guy's in that Bob Dylan kind of thing & says Outlaw Country loves him. He says the guy's label
man who runs his [record] label named Al Bunetta who's a great guy & says he plans to have him on the show one day. He says this guy has a new album called "Fair & Square" & says this song ["Crazy As A Loon"] is his favorite song.
23.Plays John Prine's "Crazy As A Loon", Mick Foley's Hillbilly Jim promo, Junior Brown's "I Hung It Up" & Grandpa Jones' "8 More Miles To Louisville".
24.Hillbilly says Jones was one of the original Grand Ole Opry stars & says Jones was a very nice man when he worked with him on "Hee Haw" . He says he's enjoying his weekend by digging into the valuts & finding some great tunes & says he loves this next tune.
25.Plays Derek & The Dominos' "Have You Ever Loved A Woman", Johnny & June Carter Cash's "Jackson", Big & Rich's "Kick My Ass".
26.Hillbilly says Big & Rich has captivated the music industry by touring so much in the last 2 or 3 years & was on the Sturgis event as well. He says next week, he'll have Two Foot Fred from the Muzik Mafia on the show & will talk about the band. He says Fred's appeared in their videos, is quite a character & says he looks like he has a hoot of a time so tune in next week for that. He says this next guy [Hoyt Axton] was one of the most important songwriters of the 70's or any other decade, says he's a great songwriter & was down on his luck for a while by having his car repossessed & put out of his house. Hillbilly says then all of a sudden one day, this guy got a $14,000 check in the mail, then the next day he got a $10,000 check in the mail. He says the 1st check was for the song called "Pusher Man" & the 2nd check was for the song "Snowbilnd Friend" & says the royalties that came to him on the right time was from the band Steppenwolf. He says after that, this person wrote songs for Three Dog Night & the rest's history & says
after this break, he'll go into his "Backstage Pass" segment.
27.Plays Hoyt Axton's "Della & The Dealer", Johnny Paycheck's "Old Violin", Hacksaw Jim Duggan's Hillbilly Jim promo, Jerry Lee Lewis & Kid Rock's "Honky Tonk Woman".
28.Hillbilly says it's time for his "Backstage Pass" & it's about Verne Gagne. He says Verne
was from Minneapolis that had one of the biggest & best promotions [AWA] that dominated the midwest & in Canada for many years. He says Verne started wrestling in the 40's & wrestled in Olympic games in '48 & had a brief career in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers. He says after that he got into pro wrestling & the 1st match he had when winning his 1st title, the ref was
the legendary boxer Jack Dempsey. He says he never worked for Verne, but knew of him because lots of his WWF buddies worked for him. Hillbilly mentions the following that worked
for Verne:Adrian Adonis, Jesse "The Body" Ventura, "Jumping" Jim Brunzell, Ken Patera, Iron Shiek, The Road Warriors, Curt Hennig & says there was so many that came from there. He says he's talked with Verne & was inducted last year in the WWE Hall Of Fame by his son who was also a wrestler Greg Gagne & says Greg used to team with Brunzell. He says Verne never wrestled in WWF/E but since he was so instrumental for many of the guys that became big stars
in WWE, that's the reason why he was inducted. He says promoters get lots of heat from other promoters & says the whole thing that came down that was big & instrumental in his life when he started in WWF, was the deal with Hulk Hogan. Hillbilly says Hulk just came off of the big
Rocky movie ["Rocky 3"] when he was "Thunderlips" & there was a huge problem in Minnesota because Verne didn't want to work with Hulk the right way or give him the right salary. So he says Hulk then jumped [more like returned] to WWF & later beat the Iron Shiek to be the world
champ & the rest's history. He said there was bad blood between the promotions [AWA & WWF], says Verne was a little bit put out by that & says there was a rumor that Verne offered the Iron Shiek $100,000 to "shoot" on Hulk in that match [1/23/1984 at MSG] & break his leg. He says the Iron Shiek said no because he's a professional & that's not what it's all about. Hillbilly says Verne has left his mark in the business with everyone coming thru the
AWA territory, says Verne was one of the biggest promoters of all time & will go down as that. He says on a good note he spent time with Verne at Wrestlemania [23] before putting him in the Hall Of Fame, says he's a nice man & it was a pleasure & honor to talk to him. He says Verne's a bright man & a legend & says that's why he has Verne as this week's topic on his "Backstage Pass". He says thanks & hoped you checked it out, says he enjoyed bringing that to you & says there ain't nothing like the wrestling business & he likes to know that you fans enjoy it. Hillbilly says he'll now play a song by an 80's band [Dire Straits], says this song ["Money For Nothing"] was huge back in the early rock days when MTV & videos were big.
29.Plays Dire Straits' "Money For Nothing", Jackson Browne's "Shaky Town", Jason & The Scorcher's "Lost Highway" & Eddie Cochran's "Summertime Blues".
30.Hillbilly says that was a screaming rocker & says if you can imagine back in the 50's &
early 60's to hear something like that when it came on the radio & says it had to blow your mind. He says it'd be like listening to Hank Williams or when listening to the original Jimmie Rodgers type singers & then here comes Hank with "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" & "Hey Good Lookin'". He says that's what it's all about when everyone gets influenced by something, everyone has to have a place where they start & says he remembers back when he was in the wrestling business, he'd talk about the old time wrestlers that influenced him when you'd grow up
watching them & that gets you interested. Hillbilly says that's the way it is in anyone's life, says he's talked about Spike's pappy [Mandoberg] influenced Spike's life by having him go out hunting & fishing & it's all good. He says the next man [Bob Dylan] has left an influence umbrella so big that it covers the whole world. He says he talked to his buddy Greg Martin from The Kentucky Headhunters who told him that he was at a show, check out the guy who was on a card with Jimmy Vaughn & others. He says this song ["Like A Rolling Stone"] is from the album "Highway 61 Revisited".
31.Plays Bob Dylan's "Like A Rolling Stone", Asleep At The Wheel's Ray Benson's Outlaw Country promo, Asleep At The Wheel's "Hot Rod Lincoln", Scott Miller & The Commonwealth's "8 Miles A Gallon".
32.Hillbilly says thanks to the fans for holding on to this part of the show because he sees that he don't have much time left & says he & Spike ain't leaving yet. He again plugs his email & toll free request line & says he got a request from an unnamed fan to hear a song, from a bluegrass legend that's written songs that people have recorded like Elvis Presley & others.
33.Plays Bill Monroe's "Blue Moon Of Kentucky", Merle Haggard's "Mama Tried" & Delbert McClinton's "Birmingham Tonight".
34.Hillbilly says "Birmingham Tonight" is from the album "Nothing Personal" & says Delbert's still writing good tunes. He says thanks to fans in California, South Florida & other places that've written to him letting him know about his show. He says he'll now play a Texas song by this great performer.
35.Plays Ray Wylie Hubbard's "Screw You, We're From Texas", Creedance Clearwater
Revival's "Lookin' Out My Back Door" & Buck Owens' "Act Natually".
36.Hillbilly says he sees the clock on the wall & it's telling him that he & Spike have got to go. He thanks Brian Harrison & Percy Mandoberg for being on the show & again says 2 Foot Fred will be on next weeks show. He thanks his producer Steve Popavich Jr. & Spike also, again says Clement's show's coming up next & says he & Spike may go fishing, but Spike may have
to mow the yard. He says he ain't here for a long time, he's here for a good time & he's had the best time this week & says he'll see you next week.
37.Ends the show with Waylon Jennings' "I've Always Been Crazy" & The Reverend Horton Heat's "Bad Reputation". Show ends at 2:01PM.
