Can "Mr. Saturday Night" hold off "The Human Action Figure"?

Posted: Dec 26th 2009 By: mikeiles

"Mr. Saturday Night" Michael Barry will celebrate 6 months as MWA Heavyweight Champion on January 10, 2010. That is if he can outsmart, outwit, and out wrestle Jeff Starchild on January 8th.

Every since Jeff Starchild first walked into Maximum Wrestling Alliance, he has had his eyes set on becoming the top dog in the company. He eyed the current Heavyweight Champion, Michael Barry. But Michael Barry has continued to use his alliance with Excellence Personified to duck Starchild's challenge. After Starchild pinned Barry in an impromptu match on October 9th, he was named #1 contender to the Heavyweight Title by Director of Operations Mike Iles. Barry knew the MWA bylaws apparently better than the new DOO because when it came time for Barry to defend the title against Starchild on November 6th, it was Barry that reminded Iles that a wrestler could not be named #1 contender without wrestling one match in MWA. But he allowed his prot?ge Lars Manderson to face Starchild, with one caveat. If Starchild defeated Manderson, Starchild would get his title shot later in the evening. Starchild defeated Manderson but then was attacked by The Jet Setters. Although he was not medically cleared to wrestle later that night, Starchild staggered to the ring for the match with his ribs heavily bandaged. He showed little offense and was pinned after a Saturday Night Special.

At the December 4th show, Starchild had to face another member of Excellence Personified, but this time it was Dustin Heritage. Of course all other members of EP were at ringside, and again Starchild was attacked. He was saved by MWA Tag Team Champions The Old School Express. Then out strolled DOO Mike Iles, who has time and time again punished EP, most especially The Jet Setters who were due a tag team title shot. He said that since EP seemed to continue to stick their nose in Starchild's business, he would make a 6-Man Tag Team Match for later featuring Starchild & OSE against Michael Barry & The Jet Setters. Barry, Heritage, and Jack Legacy all tried to talk their way out of the match, but Lars Manderson took the mic and accepted on EP's behalf much to the disgust of EP. Iles sweetened the pot by declaring which ever wrestler picks up the pinfall for his team, would be granted a title shot at any title of his choosing.

In the 6-Man Match, tempers were flaring. Each man wanted to pick up the victory for his team. A guaranteed title match was too good to pass up. EP tried isolating members of the opposite team, first with Jason Jones, then with Jake Boulder. Manderson, who was stationed at ringside with EP, grabbed a chair and argued with Barry, as seems to be the usual of late. Starchild then dropkicked Barry into the chair held by Manderson. One flying bodypress later, Starchild picked up the 1-2-3 by pinning Barry, and earned a guaranteed title shot at any MWA title. He grabbed the MWA Heavyweight Title and announced his intentions as to which title he would be going for, to no surprise to anyone in attendance.

So now, Barry must defend the title against Starchild on January 8th in Spavinaw. It was recently announced that the match would be a Lumberjack Match, so the numbers could be even if EP were to try and interfere. At the end of the night, will Jeff Starchild be the "star of the show" or will it be announced "YOUR MWA Heavyweight Champion Mr. Saturday Night has left the building"?

Other News & Notes from the MWA show:
Gary Gram returned to MWA and defeated The Longhorn Assassin. Gram is a bizarre fellow who seems to be a little "off center". The Longhorn Assassin, while a member of Stevie Caballero's entourage, just can't seem to get on the winning side since he has officially started competing in MWA.

Before the match featuring Tim Rockwell defeating Blake Albright, Stevie Caballero addressed the crowd. He said that the previous week, he had been "locked up" in a mental home and when he was released he went over the admission form "with a fine toothed comb" and found that the person that signed the admission papers was none other than MWA Director of Operations Mike Iles. When Iles came out later in the evening to address the crowd, he declined comment.

Boris Saarikoski continued his path of destruction, although lost his match by reverse decision to The Canadian Red Devil after continuing to attack CRD after the bell.

El Super Colibri also made his return to MWA and apparently has his sights set on MAX-Division Champion Sugar Shane Morbid. He defeated Morbid by DQ. Eventually these two will be facing each other again.

During the show, DOO Mike Iles made an announcement for the fans. He thanked the fans for a great 2009 and said he had hoped 2010 would be even better. He said that the company itself is successful because of the fans. He said he wanted to hear from the fans. Whether it was a match they wanted to see, a wrestler they wanted to see, a wrestler they were tired of seeing, or whatever, he wanted to hear about it. There are now four ways to do so. They are as follows:

1. Log on to the company's website and leave a message on the Forum
(MaximumWrestlingAlliance.com)

2. Log on to the company's My Space page and leave a message or send a private message
(MySpace.com/MaximumWrestlingAlliance)

3. Log on to the company's Facebook page and leave a message
(Facebook.com/#/pages/Maximum-Wrestling-Alliance/155186930134)

4. You can e-mail him directly at MWAdirector@gmail.com

So on January 8th, MWA returns to the Spavinaw School Gymnasium and already on the card is the Lumberjack Match featuring Michael Barry defending the Heavyweight Title against Jeff Starchild. That is a huge match and would be a main event anywhere in Oklahoma. Bell time is 8pm and admission is just $5.

MWA...we are MAXIMUM entertainment!!!
