Goldeneye Looking At Triple Threat At NOC

Goldeneye Looking At Triple Threat At NOC

Posted: Dec 10th 2009 By: CMBurnham

A few months ago, Oklafan published an article asking of it was possible to restore the prestige of the ComPro Oklahoma X Division Title. It appears that some wrestlers took this article seriously (as it should have been) and worked towards trying to bring some interest back to the division.

Things looked up for the title while it was held by Sage. Some fresh new matches and some renewed interest had people talking about the belt again. But then, the unthinkable happened and Goldeneye regained the belt. Many fans feared that it would be back to the embarassment of his first championship reign, where the belt was barely defended once a month and Goldeneye lost more matches than he won.

Interestingly, that hasn't exactly been true. Although it's fair to say that Goldeneye has still lost more matches than he has won, he seems more confident as champion and is willing to put the belt on the line a little more readily.

He still faces problems with opponents larger than he is. For instance, 3 weeks ago, he was thoroughly beaten by Mighty Mouse, Tyson Jaymes and TAP Oklahoma Heritage & MWA Max-Division Champion Shane Morbid in a 4-Way Elimination match to determine who entered the Oklahoma Stampede last. Morbid won the match, after he and the other delivered a painful abusing of Goldeneye's body to him. And being driven as he was, Morbid traded Goldeneye his #1 slot for his own #30 position. This meant Goldeneye entered the Stampede last, the best position to have on the surface (although, to be fair, no one who has ever drawn #30 has won the match.)

Goldeneye didn't win the Oklahoma Stampede and this is probably a good thing for him, as he would still have had to defend his title in addition to challenging for one. Wrestling twice in one night doesn't seem like it would be Goldeneye's forte. And that begs the question: if he can't perform twice in one night, how will he fare against two opponents at the same time?

When ComPro owner Mike Two came out at the beginning of the show last Saturday, it was to officially make some of the matches for the upcoming Night of Champions card. After bringing out the champion, Mike Two brought out his challenger, The Canadian Luchadore (and his mentor, Sensei Bolo). But in a surprise move, following Luchy & Bolo was Sage, returning for the first time since losing the X Division Title to Goldeneye. Sage stepped up to Mike Two and said he had been screwed out of the title last time and hadn't received a rematch yet. But somehow, he wasn't named the #1 contender. After a quick bit of thought, Mike announced that the NoC match would be a Triple Threat match for the title. Mike then called out another interested party: the Masked Martyr, who has made quiet but determined requests for an X Division Title shot. Mike had hopes to see how well all 3 champions would fair that night and ordered an opening tag team match with the Martyr & Goldeneye facing Lulchie & Sage. Sage refused to take Luchie, saying he couldn't trust him. The last time he trusted him, he got a stick across the back of his head and top of this back. He didn't care what it cost him, he wasn't going to tag with the champion. Mike Two relented and said instead, there would still be a tag team match, but the partners were different. Now, it was the Martyr & Sage taking on Luchie & the Masked Martyr. There was no argument and as soon as Mike Two vacated the ring, the bell rang and the match was on.

As should be expected in these situations, when things get too complicated, Goldeneye tended to cower in the corner. And amusingly enough, the end to the match came when Goldeneye wasn't expecting it. Sage had just atomic dropped Goldeneye into the corner, then turned to the fallen Luchadore. He made the cover and won the match, but then Goldeneye bounded out of the corner and began attacking everyone with such passion and determination, it was almost like a mad man.

So the competition heats up in the X Division ranks. Right now, everyone is ready to target the champion, whom they consider to be a weak link. In return, he is preparing to eliminate the opponents and will have to be twice as prepared since it is taking place as a triple threat match. If Goldeneye can maintain the title, he will have proven himself as a much stronger competitor than anyone gave him credit for. But Sage is motivated to reclaim what he feels he never lost and the Luchadore wants to feel singles gold around his waist for the first time ever. The last time Goldeneye was in the ring with more than one active competitor, he was beaten up for many minutes before things got worse. Now, with his title on the line and facing two competitiors, it doesn't look like it can get much worse than at that moment.
