Armstrong Wins Halloween Hardcore Battle Royal!

Though he doesn't use it often, Tyson Armstrong is sometimes known as "The Knockout King" and he demonstrated why he has that nickname as he fought his way to victory in the 2009 Halloween Hardcore Battle Royal.

In recent weeks, Armstrong has been embroiled in a fued with Reckless, 1/2 of the Saints of Twilight. This feud originated what defeated Ignition by DQ on June 27th. While Tyson was happy with the win, he was more impressed that he was the first wrestler to prevent Ignition and Reckless from switching successfully during the match. This bought him an impressive psychological advantage, but it was one that he couldn't use to his full effectiveness immediately, as he lost his next match against Ignition a month later.

On August 22, Tyson and Reckless officially had their first 1-on-1 encounter. This match went to a double countout and while Tyson once again could say that he didn't fall victim to the switcheroo, he was very frustrated because he couldn't gain a win over his opponent. He even offered to face both members in a handicap match, but they refused this idea. Two weeks later, he tried again and did come up with the win, thanks to a schoolboy rollup. But both SOTs took out their frustration in a post-match attack. Then two weeks after that, on August 19, Reckless upended him. The back-and-forth nature of the feud gave Tyson the idea that he needed to step things up and, after losing to Reckless in August, he proposed that they settle things at Night of Champions in a 2-out-of-3 Falls Match. This was agreed to and both men were set to end the fued on that date. Armstrong and Reckless opened Night of Champions on October 10.

In that conflict, Reckless was able to score the first pinfall, but Tyson came back for back-to-back pins and ultimately win the match. Tyson was elated at the victory, believing he had finally proven his point, but that didn't seem to be the case in the SOTs minds, as they had ComPro owner Mike Two sign as Fans Bring the Weapons Match for the Halloween Hardcore Bash.

This match saw many various weapons including chairs, crutches, pie tins, a pool strainer and even a flyswatter. As should be expected, with no DQs possible, the SOTs double teamed Tyson and while he was able to fight back, ultimately it was just too much for him. His end came when Ignition hit a drop toehold onto a chair, sending Armstrong's head through the opening in the back. Reckess then kicked the chair over and choked Tyson before covering him for the win.

So the war was still on. And all 3 men, along with 12 others, prepared to do battle in the annual Halloween Hardcore Bash. Armstrong got a little retribution because he can be credited with eliminating both members of the Saints of Twilight. But more importantly, Armstrong and Ray Martinez were the final two men in the ring. Although Martinez was surrounded by weapons, he couldn't get ahold of one quickly enough before Armstrong hit "Ground Zero" on Ray, then threw him out of the ring to win the event.

This victory might be what it takes to propel Armstrong into title contention. The last time he received a title shot was against ComPro Champion Draven Cross almost 5 months ago.

Ironically, last year's Hardcore Halloween Battle Royal winner was the Shadow of Death, who Armstrong has had some issues with as well. Besides managing the Saints of Twilight in their feud, Armstrong has had some brief physical confrontations as well. Although SOD has been missing for the month of October, it is rumoured that he might be making his return this Saturday.
