You Win Some, You Lose Some: Texas, Inc. STILL Champions

No matter what people say about them, the one thing that can't be said about ComPro Tag Team Champions Texas, Inc. is that they not successful.

For 6 months, Tim Rockwell & Bernard Funk, together with their manager Stevie Caballero, ruled MWA as the inaugural tag team champions. They added this title to their share of the TAP Tag Team Titles that they shared as part of Texas Outlaws, Inc. In July, the dream of once again being Triple Crown Tag Team champions was set in motion as they attacked Team SuperBad immediately after they won the ComPro Tag Team Titles. They delivered a spike piledriver to Justin Lee and then buried him under the Texas flag.

Texas, Inc. are highly experienced and knew that defending the belts they had and winning the ones they didn't was going to be a tough test. But they believed that they had accomplished a major step in remaining MWA Tag Team Champions for a long time when they defeated The Old School Express in a Steel Cage Match in Pryor in July. The win came due to some assistance from the Longhorn Assassin, a person most people believed to be Bernard Funk under a mask. But more importantly, the contract that the OSE had signed indicated that if they didn't win this match, they would not receive another title shot for 90 days.

Jason Jones pleaded with then-MWA Director of Operations Raymon Downey to get one more chance. Downey agreed that there had been extenuating circumstances and granted them a chance to earn that title shot by facing Southern Tag Team Champions The Jet Setters in September. If they won that match, they would get a title shot. That didn't happen, thanks to some distraction from Tim Rockwell which allowed Jack Legacy & Dustin Heritage to connect with the Nose Dive. The Jet Setters believed that they had earned a title shot against Texas, Inc. in October, due to an announcement at the end of the show in September, but things didn't exactly work out as they planned.

At the beginning of the MWA event on October 9, Mike Iles demanded that the MWA locker room come out for a meeting and he announced that he had been named the new DOO for MWA. This came as a huge surprise to most everyone present, but the surprises were just begining. Iles announced that Jake Boulder had turned over his $5000 winnings from the Battle Royal the month before in exchange for a title shot. And it wouldn't be just any title match, it would be the OSE's specialty: an Old School Butt Whoopin' Match! Texas, Inc. was irate, the Jet Setters weren't much happier (although that seemed to be calmed when they were given the $5000 check and the promise that they would get a title shot next month), but the OSE had big smiles on their faces as they left the ring to prepare for the main event.

When the time came for the title match, Funk and Rockwell had one more trick up their sleeves. They said that the OSE had nothing to lose in this match and that they had gotten to choose the format for the match, so the champions insisted that the challengers put their careers on the line. Jason Jones & Jake Boulder debated and finallly agreed that if they lost, they would never be allowed to tag together in MWA again. So the bell rang and the match was on. It was chaos from the beginning as the action poured outside the ring, with Rockwell & Boulder pairing off one one side, while Jones & Funk tied up on the other. A plentitude of weapons were used, including the ringside announce table, the stairs, cookie sheets, trash cans and belts. Rockwell & Jones eventually battled into the crowd, then made their way outside the building and fought their way around to the side entrance before making their way back inside.

With carnage and destruction abundant at ringside, Stevie Caballero was even a victim as he was wiped out by Jones. With Funk then hogtied by his own bullrope, Rockwell had no help and was pinned on the outside. After six long months, the OSE's dream of winning the MWA Tag Team Titles had finally become a reality.

Texas, Inc. was all-the-more motivated after this loss as it was their first time without championship gold since winning the TAP Tag Team Titles in April. So they entered the 16th ComPro Night of Champions with a huge determination to regain the belts they had been the first to hold. They combined that desire with some revenge for the loss they suffered with ComPro Champion Draven Cross to Team SuperBad & current MWA MAX-Division Shane Morbid on September 5. Both teams knew each other well and were prepared for each other's best moves and tricks. But a distraction by Caballero allowed Rockwell to grab one of the tag team belts, slamming it into Justin's head, then throwing it away. His aim didn't quite work, though, as it landed inside the ring and the referee saw it, then signalled for the bell and disqualified the challengers. Justin grabbed the microphone and announced that there was no way this match was going to end on a DQ. Team SuperBad was there to defend the belts and prove that they were better than Texas, Inc. They insisted that the match be restarted and the referee complied. And again, Rockwell grabbed the belt to knock out Lee, this time disposing of the evidence sucessfully and pinning the champion for 3. As they had done 3 years before, Texas, Inc. stood as the ComPro Tag Team Champions.

Funk & Rockwell weren't satisfied with this, as they delivered 3 spike piledrivers to El Super Colibri, causing unknown head and neck injuries. But there are plenty of other tag team competitors in ComPro for them to be worried about. Also, it seems that they would be receiving a title rematch for the MWA Tag Team Titles against the OSE. Perhaps the biggest challenge in front of them at this point is trying to again by triple crown tag team champions, as the TAP has ceased promotion and, while they made trips to SWCW earlier in the summer, they haven't been back since being suspended for 60 days in July.

But even if they're only champions in one federation, Texas, Inc. has shown that they are still a threat no matter where they go. They can never be counted out of any title situation and continue to make their presence known across the state.
