Did Dawn of Extreme Commit A Rookie Mistake?
Posted: Mar 26th 2009 By: CMBurnham
Dawn of Extreme have certainly made an impression in their short time together at ComPro. Since debuting in the Oklahoma Stampede, they engaged in feud with the Saints of Twilight. That feud resulted in them earning several defeats, but the confidence they earned when they finally won a match against the SOTs paid off heavily. Now, Ty Thunder and Crucifer find themselves involved in a 4-way feud surrounding the ComPro Tag Team titles.
Since ending their feud with the Saints, DOX made some challenges to the then-ComPro Tag Team Champions Legion 13. While brash, their challenges weren't enough to gain the rookie team the tag team championship. At Night of Champions on March 14, DOX found themselves across the ring from the former Triple Crown Tag Team Champions, Texas, Inc. Even though Stevie Caballero wasn't at ringside, Tim Rockwell & Bernard Funk felt confident that they could outclass and outmatch their rookie opponents. That didn't end up being the case as the Texas cowbell was brought in and Texas, Inc. was disqualified.
This past Saturday DOX was set once against to face Legion 13. Even though Ray Martinez's team weren't the tag team champions, this match was still important as a win against the former champions would certainly move the rookies up the ladder into contention for another title shot. DOX came out, but before they could even make it all the way around the ring to greet the fans, Texas, Inc. emerged from the entrance and clobbered both men in the back of the head. A brief but brutal beatdown followed and then Legion 13 emerged. Try as they might, DOX never really got back in the game, although at one point it appeared as though Crucifer were really fired up. He went to hit a springboard maneuvre, but straddled himself on the rope when he missed his jump and only furthered the injuries that Funk & Rockwell already started. Ultimately, it was just too much for DOX to overcome and Legion 13 made a powerful statement at the rookies' expense. Tim Rockwell even stuck his head out of the entrance way after the match was over and greeted the winners as the went back to the dressing area.
If Texas thought that was all they had to worry about when it came to DOX, they were sorely mistaken. During another tag team match, this one involving Texas, Inc. & ComPro Tag Team Champions Team SuperBad, Tim Rockwell & Justin Lee were both down in the ring and crawling towards their respective corners. Lee was able to make the tag into El Super Colibri, but just as Tim was about to tag his uncle, DOX came out and pulled Bernard Funk off the apron. This left a tired Timmy to weakened to avoid a superkick from Justin which then led to a pin by the tag team champions.
DOX may have bitten off more than they can chew by getting in the business of Texas, Inc. Make no mistake that Funk & Rockwell want to prove that they are still the best tag team in the state and they've already started in ComPro. Both teams are also amongst the entrants in the MWA Tag Team Title tournament scheduled for April 2. Thunder & Crucifer need to make sure they don't let a little success go to their heads because Texas, Inc. is always just one spike piledriver away from ruining promising young wrestling careers.
