High Society Lucky To Escape With NWA-OK Tag Titles

A new era dawned for NWA-OK last summer as the first NWA-OK Oklahoma Tag Team Champions were crowned. Al Farat and Thomas Trump, collectively known as High Society, won a four team tournament to become the initial champions and then went on to collect 4 other tag team titles in Oklahoma and Texas, including the 3DW and TCBW Tag Team belts.

Since their becoming champions, not too many challengers have made a strong attempt to take the belts away. The one team that has made it clear that they want to be the next champions are Ky-Ote Joe and Kunna Keyoh also known as Native Pride. Joe & Kunna have made several attempts to take those belts, but it seeemed like something always got in their way. On February 20 in Ringling, IZW Tag Team Champions BLK-OUT interfered in the match, costing Native Pride their chance. 2 weeks later, in Davis, High Society and Native Pride faced off in a No Holds Barred match. The Native American team was sure they had the belts this time and Farat & Trump probably felt the same, as they decided it was better to just walk out on the challenge rather than lose the belts. Native Pride chased after them and a No-Contest was declared.

This past Friday in Ada, Native Pride came to the ring for an interview with C. M. Burnham. Burnham recapped the past confrontations between these two teams and asked what they planned to do to ensure that they would make it out of Ada as the new champions. Joe took the microphone and talked to the crowd, saying they were the most important thing to the team, but before he could get too specific about his plans, High Society's music played and the champions came to the ring. Immediately, the chants of "USA!" eminated from the crowd and Farat could not contain the anger that provoked in him. The champions promised that they would leave with their titles still intact and the match was set for the main event.

In the course of this face-off, Farat directed some comments at KADA morning DJ Mighty Mike Manus. Manus had interviewed Native Pride on his show and High Society had barged in to interrupt the procedings. Farat did not take kindly to the comments that Manus had, as he was invited into the ring to address the crowd before the show started and this ill will would have major repercutions for the main event.

When it came time for the match, both teams hit the ring and were ready. As usual Al Farat brought all the sneaky tricks he's well known for, including his concealed spike, which he used frequently during the match. After a shot to the throat with the spike, Farat covered Joe for the win. But NWA-OK commissioner Randi Lynn refused to allow this decision to stand. After the bell was rung, Lynn took the microphone and announced that she was sick of the cheating. She ordered the match restarted and even jumped in the ring to grab the spike and remove it from the procedings. The crowd was ecstatic as they could sense a title change in the air. But then, Thomas Trump pulled referee Danny Hunt in the way of a spear from Keyoh and he was knocked unconscious. Native Pride went on to deliver a devestating finishing move, but there was no referee. Ky-Ote Joe then motioned to Mike Manus, who had joined C. M. Burnham and Earl Kennedy at ringside for guest commentary, and called him into the ring to make the three-count. Manus looked a little hesistant at first, but dove in and slapped the ring 3 times. The bell rang and Joshua Smith announced to the incredulous crowd that Native Pride were finally the NWA-OK Oklahoma Tag Team Champions!

That celebration was very short lived as Farat immediately grabbed the microphone and protested the decision. He pointed out that Mike Manus was not a legally licensed or sanctioned NWA official. Therefore the three-count was illegal and the belts had to be returned. Randi Lynn could do nothing about this as she knew everything Farat said was completely true. Joe and Keyoh were heartbroken, but had to do the right thing and give up the belts. Joe then grabbed the microphone and said that he knew all the fans there understood that Native Pride were the rightful champions. He challenged them to a No DQ match for the belts when NWA-OK returned to Ada in the summer. Farat agreed and then, in a move that almost defied sense, demanded that Mike Manus be appointed the special referee. Randi Lynn made this all official and then all hell broke loose as both teams tore into each other. The brawl didn't last long as Native Pride cleared High Society from the ring and stood triumphant, even though they didn't have the belts.

It seems like a strange move for Farat to bring in a man who has an obvious beef with him to be the special referee. But Farat has always been a devious man. Given his resources and willingness to be underhanded, it seems guaranteed that he has a plan to make sure that he and Thomas Trump remain champions for as long as possible. Native Pride need to be well prepared as this may be their final chance to claim the belts they've wanted for so long.
