SuperBad or SuperBALD? Lee & Colibri Put Hair & Mask Up at NOC XIII
Posted: Mar 12th 2009 By: CMBurnham
They were voted the ComPro Tag Team of the Year in 2008, but never held the title. That's not because they didn't try, though. For months, Justin Lee & El Super Colibri, collectively known as Team SuperBad, have been chasing the ComPro Tag Team Titles held by Legion 13.
And month after month, the tag team titles slipped through their grasp. The most recent opportunity they had to win the belts was February 7 at Night of Champions XII in a Tornado Rules Match. After a hard fought match that saw the challengers come close on several occassions to securing the victory, Justin Lee and Dutch Hagen both executed pins on their opponents. Generic Referee One counted both pinfalls simultaneously and the match was declared a draw. This meant that the belts remained with the champions, a decision that the fans did not take any pleasure in.
Since that point, Team SuperBad has done everything they can to prove to ComPro management that they are still the number one contender. They tagged with Dawn of Extreme and defeated Legion 13 & The Saints of Twilight on February 21. A week after that, though, they suffered a loss to the Saints, thanks to interference from Legion 13. Lee & Colibri returned the favour later in the card, allowing Dawn of Extreme to pick up a huge non-title victory over the tag team champions and move up the rankings.
Things came to a head after Dutch Hagen & Jesus Rodriguez successfully defended their titles against Ty Thunder & Crucifer. Not satisfied with the win, manager Ray Martinez ordered Legion 13 to take out their frustrations on the rookie team in a post-match beatdown. Team SuperBad soon came to the ring with chairs in hand and cleared the tag champions out. Justin Lee then took the microphone and told the crowd that those belts belonged to them. He said Legion 13 had to defend the titles at Night of Champions XIII and they wanted to be the opposition. Justin called out ComPro owner Mike Two to make it official. As soon as Mike Two arrived, Ray Martinez began to protest, saying that according to the rules, the tag team titles had to be defended once every 30 days. They had just done that against Dawn of Extreme and, as far as he was concerned, there was no reason for them to show up and defend at Night of Champions. Mike Two said he was of the opinion that there was more than one tag team deserving of the the title shot and just had to make the decision about who would get it. Again, Martinez reiterated the 30-day rule, but Mike Two said that Night of Champions was an exception to the 30-day rule and the titles WOULD be defended. This brought a huge cheer from the crowd, but the question still remained as to who would challenge for the belts.
Seeing that his attempt to hide behind the 30-day rule wasn't successful, Ray Martinez brought up how the last time they faced Team SuperBad, the match was a draw. As far as he could see, Legion 13 had nothing left to prove against Team SuperBad. Justin Lee stepped up and said that he had promised the fans that they would become champions and they would put up whatever was necessary to get that shot. This caught Martinez's interested and the evil wheels of his mind began to turn immediately. He agreed to give Team SuperBad a title shot, but in return, they had to agree that, if they lost, Justin Lee would have his head shaved and El Super Colibri would have to unmask in front of everyone.
Lee took a moment to discuss with Colibri, saying that, while his hair would grow back, Colibri's mask was sacred to the luchadore. Colibri said he understood what was necessary and was prepared to make that sacrifice. Mike Two officially announced that the match was made. This Saturday, either new ComPro Tag Team Champions will be crowned or Justin Lee & El Super Colibri will have their appearances changed, one forever.
