Texas, Inc Determined To Be On Top Again

Texas, Inc Determined To Be On Top Again

Posted: Feb 10th 2009 By: CMBurnham

The way Texas, Inc. has been behaving, it's as if they never took a year off. The dastardly duo of Bernard Funk & TAP Oklahoma Heritage Champion Tim Rockwell, together with their manager Stevie Caballero, are up to all their old tricks, hoping to once again be tag team champions and on top of the ranks in this state.

Friday night in Spavinaw saw Texas, Inc. compete together for the first time Osince last summer. But that match wouldn't have happened if Rockwell hadn't tried to prove a point in the opening match on the MWA card against Jake Boulder. Rockwell and his Texas compatriots were already upset because they were forced to come to the ring to "Boomer Sooner" rather than their preferred strains of "God Bless Texas". Rockwell was in no mood to be messed with and while Boulder was arguing with Bernard Funk and the referee was trying to get Jason Jones off the ring apron, Caballero gave Rockwell his megaphone, which Rockwell smashed into the head of Boulder, allowing him to get the cover. Texas, Inc. then delivered a brief post-match beat down before exiting the ring. But they left behind 2 vital pieces of evidence: the masks of the Longhorn Assassins.

The Old School Express returned to the ring after the next match, carrying the masks left behind, and they were notably upset. Jason Jones grabbed the microphone and told the crowd that, in the 2 times they were Southern Tag Team Champions, they made 27 title defences in 9 states. They came to MWA because they had heard it was where the best talent in Oklahoma wrestled. They believed that. But then they lost their belts due to interference by a masked man. Jones went on to say that he had been in the business for 11 years and was not going to be screwed over by Texas, Inc. He demanded to talk to Raymon Downey and Ramon came out to listen to him. Before Jones could say anything, Jake Boulder took the microphone and said Downey had two options: he could either give the Old School Express a match against Texas, Inc. in the ring or there was an open parking lot out back where they could meet. Downey turned the question to the fans and asked if they wanted to see this match. The crowd's response was all he needed to hear, but it was not what Rockwell & Funk wanted to hear and they came bolting down the ramp in protest. Caballero said this was unacceptable and they weren't going to wrestle, but Downey reminded him about how Funk ended up in jail last month and threatened to do the same to Caballero if he didn't get his men to the match, which would happen after the next match.

When the match arrived, the first thing that the OSE did was keep Rockwell & Funk out of the ring and corner Caballero. Jones then bent him over his knee and spanked him like a disobedient 2-year old! This fired up the OSE, but it also gave some motivation to Texas, Inc. who wanted revenge for their mentor. And they went to take that after the referee was knocked out. Once again, Caballero threw the megaphone in. This time it came in contact with Jason Jones' head, but the result was the same; another victory for Texas, Inc.

That wasn't enough for "The Texas Yankee" though, as he ordered his men to annhilate Jones & Boulder. And that began a giant chaotic battle that involved Texas, Inc., the Old School Express, the referees, security and the entire locker room. This battle bled out of the ring and into the ringside area, even forcing Mike Iles & C. M. Burnham to scatter for cover. After what seemed like an eternity, order was restored and eventually the show proceded. But nothing has been resolved between these two teams.

If fans thought that Texas, Inc. was done with their duplicity on Friday, they were sorely mistaken. They were only warmed up. Things appeared to be on the up-and-up in the match between Rockwell and his best friend X-Cal. X-Cal was leaving Oklahoma and Rockwell wanted to be his last opponent in the state. And the past week, he'd said on the ComPro message board that they were going to do this for the fans and make it a tremendous match. Rockwell seemed sincere in this statement, as he sent Caballero and ComPro Champion Draven Cross to the back at the beginning of their match. The match was clean, albeit a little short and Rockwell won when he rolled through a cross body block that X-Cal did off the top rope. But that was the point where things began to go back the way they had been. Caballero returned and brought Funk out with him, which seemed to surprise Rockwell. He asked why Funk was there and told them both to leave the ring so X-Cal could make his final goodbyes to the crowd.

X-Cal told the crowd that you don't quit the business, it quits you, and that he would be back eventually. Rockwell then took the mic and said that he knew the fans thought of him as a "Texas prick", to which the crowd voiced a mighty affirmative. He followed that by saying that nothing was more important to him than his friendship. The two embraced and Rockwell repeated that statement...then followed it with "except Texas, Inc." At that point, he gave X-Cal a grapevine DDT and called Funk in to the ring to help deliver a thundering spike piledriver, leaving X-Cal in a crumpled heap as they exited the ring.

As Texas, Inc. left, they told the crowd that the entire state needed to be on notice that Texas, Inc. was back. Obviously they have plans to once again be recognised as the greatest team in the state. While it's unclear exactly who their first target in ComPro might be, their issues with the Old School Express are only just beginning. A return match between the teams is set for March 6.
