Tim Rockwell & X-Cal: One Last Time
Posted: Feb 5th 2009 By: CMBurnham
In 2004, two rising stars engaged in a brutal and heated feud in SRPW. On one side, there was Chris Gazaway, member of the Fraternity of Sin. On the opposite side was Timmy J, rookie sensation and fan favourite. These two battled for months, culminating their issue on April 19, 2005 when Timmy defeated Gazaway in a Respect Match. The result of this fued was a friendship that led to the creation of the 918 Boyz. Although Timmy & Gazaway never held the tag team titles together, they remained strong friends for most of the remainder of SRPW's existance.
Fast forward 5 years and many things have changed. Gazaway began to compete once again under his previous alias of X-Cal. Timmy J also changed names, becoming famous across the state as Tim Rockwell and earning the #1 position in the Oklafan Top 50 in 2007. Both men also experienced something of a reversal in their lives. Rockwell, who had begun wrestling more as a hobby due to his family connections, became much more serious and put his aspiring music career to the side. X-Cal, who many considered to be one of the most physically talented in-ring performers, became more and more interested in music and recently released his first CD.
Both men are regular competitors in MWA & ComPro, but haven't had many dealings with each other until recently.
3 weeks ago, X-Cal received a shot at ComPro Champion Draven Cross. He put up a valiant effort, but came out on the losing side and suffered some minor internal injuries in the match. Although he healed up from that by the next week, he chose not to compete because that same night was the night of his CD release party and he didn't want anything to threaten that. Rockwell chose to issue a challenge to X-Cal for the Night of Champions in X-Cal's absence. That challenge wouldn't be addressed until the next week.
On January 31, Rockwell & Draven met Pork Chop & TAP Champion The Canadian Red Devil in the opening match of the card. The Devil & Pork Chop have major issues in trusting each other, but tried to set those aside to gain a victory in this match. Both men wanted to lay their hands on Draven, but the gigantic champion refused to enter the ring on several occassions, instead allowing Rockwell to take the beatings from both of the top contenders. The match saw an end when the Devil locked Draven in a sleeper and Stevie Caballero convinced Draven not to go in and save him. Instead, the champ and manager abandoned their charge and took the loss, leaving Rockwell unconscious in the ring. After the victorious duo left the ring area, X-Cal's music played and the "Loose Cannon" returned and entered the ring to stand over his prone challenger. He recapped some of their history and accepted X-Cal's challenge. Rockwell, who had recovered by this point, said that he wasn't being funny. He wanted the best of X-Cal and "would even take Chris Gazaway" if he had to.
X-Cal reminded everyone that he was leaving for California on February 8 and wasn't sure how many more matches he had, but he would bring his best. Then, in a sign that there were still some of the old 918 Boyz relationship between the two, X-Cal told Tim that he owed him $10 for the CD that he had. Tim responded that he didn't have any pockets in his tights, so he didn't have any money, but that X should know he was good for it. X-Cal said that he would hold onto the CD until Tim paid him, then gave the CD away to one of the ringside fans.
Rockwell has promised that this match will be for the fans and he wants to prove that he is still Terrific. 4 years ago, Rockwell came out victorious in this feud. Knowing that it's the last time both men will face each other, Rockwell & X-Cal seem likely to pull out all the stops and remind people why they were (and are) some of the most amazing performers in the state of Oklahoma.
