Ryan Davidson allows Angel Williams' mouth to cost him the Mid-South Title

Ryan Davidson surprised everyone in the Mid-South Wrestling Alliance by defeating Angel Williams for the MSWA Mid-South Title, despite severe odds stacked against him.

Davidson had a scheduled match against his long-time rival, MSWA Mid-South Cruiserweight Champion Tyler Bateman on June 18. Davidson had defeated Bateman the previous night in a Lawton Street Fight in IZW, tying their Best-of-5 series for the vacant IZW Impact Division Title at 1 match each. This match wasn't for Bateman's Cruiserweight Title, but MSWA Commissioner Halo came to the ring to announce that it was to determine the #1 contender to the Mid-South Championship. Davidson fought bravely against Bateman, but with the other members of the Old School Assassins, Brad Michaels and IZW Cruiserweight & NWA-U Oklahoma Champion John O'Malley present at ringside with Bateman, things looked bleak for Ryan. Then, it got even worse as, with the referee diverted by the OSA, Mid-South Champion Angel Williams came into the ring and hit Ryan with his belt, allowing Tyler to score the pin and become the #1 contender to the Mid-South Title.

But Davidson's night wasn't over yet. Williams took the microphone and announced to the crowd that, even though Davidson wasn't the #1 contender, he was going to go grant him a title match. That match would begin right then, even though Davidson was obviously exhausted from his previous match. But Williams' ego would get the best of him, as at one point, he had Davidson virtually unconscious, but pulled him up from a pinning predicament after the referee only counted 2. This mind-set would ultimately cost Williams, as Ryan evaded a charge into the corner, schoolboyed Williams and became the new Mid-South Champion.

This marks the 3rd title that Davidson has held in MSWA this year. He began the year as the Cruiserweight Champion, but lost that title to Cody Jones within the 1st week of 2006. He would rebound from that loss a week later and capture the Tri-State Title in a Fatal 4-Way, but only held that title for about a month before dropping it to current champion AWOL.

Davidson remains one of the busiest wrestlers on the Oklahoma independent circuit. Besides competing fulltime for MSWA & IZW, he competed for NWA-U back in May. He is also a member of the TPW roster, where he teams at times with Bernard Funk and Timmy J as Texas, Inc.
