The Return Of The Real McCoy

The Return Of The Real McCoy

Posted: Nov 15th 2008 By: CMBurnham

Over the years in Oklahoma, there have been a plethora of performers that the fans just find fun. One of those was a man known for most of his career as Dirty Harry Sanchez. Sanchez came to prominence in SRPW beginning in 2003 when he tagged with his cousin, current ComPro Tag Team Champion Shane Morbid, as the Bloated Floaters. It was obvious from the beginning that this was an abusive family relationship. Morbid continuously berated, verbally chastised and otherwise degraded Sanchez.

Eventually, DHS had enough and broke away from Morbid. This began a 2 year run where DHS went on to establish himself in the hardcore division in SRPW. He feuded with Morbid and Beau Dalton over that belt and was involved in one of the more controversial decisions regarding the 24/7 stipulation. In a match on June 18, 2004, the SRPW Hardcore Title changed hands 6 times, beginning and ending with DHS. At the end of that exchange, SRPW photographer S. K. Fulton (who would go on to managerial fame as Stevie Caballero) pinned Dexter Hardaway for the belt and celebrated for 15 seconds before being put in a big bear hug by DHS. While it was possible that DHS was trying to celebrate with Fulton, the referee didn't see it that way and when Fulton tapped on DHS' back to try and get him to let go, the ref recorded that as a submission and Fulton lost the title. It was the only time a non-wrestler held that title.

DHS had his last SRPW Hardcore Title reign in February, 2005. After doing all he could in that division, DHS set his sights on the top prize in the federation. Luc Lapointe had been champion since June, 2004. He and DHS were complete opposites. Lapointe was snooty, acted superior and surrounded himself with the members of the Fraternity of Sin. DHS stood alone, representing the fans and the blue collar workers of the world. Two months after dropping the Hardcore Title, DHS pinned Luc Lapointe to win the SRPW Title. The next 6 months saw DHS defend against all comers, big or small. But ultimately, the end came at the hands of the one man DHS could never truly get the better of: Shane Morbid. On October 7, 2005, Morbid pinned his cousin to win his first SRPW Title. And it seemed that the beginning of the downside of DHS's career began at this point.

DHS would appear only sporadically over the next year. He sometimes competed as DHS and sometimes under the name Jake McCoy. Normally a fun-loving good ol' boy, DHS began to show a more serious, darker side. And it was apparent that he just wasn't having fun like he used to. But he still loved SRPW and when the P.I.N.K. Nation threatened the existance of the company, DHS stepped up to join Dexter Hardaway's team to face the Nation in a War Games style match. If the Dexter's side won, the Nation was gone from SRPW forever, but if the Nation won, SRPW shut its doors for good. Despite his contributions, DHS and his partners came out on the losing side and it seemed that the end might have come for "The Dirty One".

For over two years, the wrestling world heard nothing from DHS. And it wouldn't be odd for someone to be done after 4 years. But the dream of Jake McCoy hadn't ended and unknown to most fans, he had made contact with ComPro owner Mike Two about a return. McCoy had begun his training in OCW, where Mike Two had been a referee, so there was a connection. Mike, in turn, had attended several SRPW events and even performed on a couple of their early cards in 2003. So the door was wide open for McCoy to make his return to wrestling and he took that step through on November 8. In the opposing corner was his old friend, TAP Oklahoma Heritage & MWA Champion Tim Rockwell. And in Rockwell's corner, the man McCoy took the Hardcore title away from, Stevie Caballero. At first, Tim seemed to welcome McCoy back, calling him his "old friend". But that proved to be a ruse and soon the two former friends were laying into each other. McCoy wanted to make a strong impression on his return, but Rockwell did not want to suffer a defeat to someone who hadn't wrestled a match in over 2 years.

Ultimately, Rockwell came out the victor. But McCoy made a solid impression and reconnected with the fans as if he'd never been gone. At this point, it doesn't seem impossible to believe that McCoy could once again go to the top of the federation. But with opponents like Rockwell, like Morbid, plus some talent that McCoy hasn't met before, it might be a tough climb for "Blue Collar" to make.
