Hagen & X-Cal: Better Enemies Than Friends

Hagen & X-Cal: Better Enemies Than Friends

Posted: Oct 16th 2008 By: CMBurnham

An old adage states that wrestling is not a team sport. But there is a place for tag teams, so partnerships and family ties are important. Sometimes new stars find it easier to have someone to rely upon in a tag team situation so they can learn the ropes more quickly and successfully.

Such was the case with "Handsome" Dutch Hagen. Making his debut earlier this year, Hagen experienced very limited success until he was taken under the wing of Rocco Valentino. Valentino concentrated on improving Hagen's confidence and together they went all the way to the ComPro Tag Team Championship. But that title was lost when Rocco decided to reenter retirement. That forced Dutch Hagen to relenquish his half of the tag team title. Some people suggest that this might have been unfair to Hagen, but ComPro owner Mike Two offered Hagen a chance to regain that title only a week after giving it up. The only thing he had to do was to find a partner. A difficult task for someone who had only been in the business a couple of months and hadn't really had a chance to make any alliances.

But Hagen surprised everyone when he chose a man who had defeated him just the week before: X-Cal. The new pairing were certainly the underdogs when they faced 3 other established tag teams and, while they outlasted the No Mercy Dojo, they were the next team to fall in the 4-Corners Elimination Tag Team Match to fill the vacant tag team titles. And Hagen's temper got the best of him as he placed full blame of the loss on X-Cal. Hagen and X-Cal ended up battling each other up the aisle after their elimination and the war was on.

With 3 weeks before the next ComPro event, many fans hoped that the disagreement between the two stars would have calmed down. That was not the case based on the events of October 11. Although the two men were not booked to face each other, they certainly made their presence known in each others' respective matches. X-Cal faced off against MWA & TAP Oklahoma Heritage Champion Tim Rockwell. These two men had a long standing issue dating back 4 years to SRPW where they had an intense feud and were also both members of the 918 Boyz. That partnership was long over, but the memories remained and X-Cal looked to gain his first win over Rockwell since 2004. That was not destined to happen this night as Dutch Hagen came out when X-Cal had Rockwell pinned. While Generic Referee One was distracted by Stevie Caballero, X-Cal got up to confront Hagen, he stood up on the ring apron, then dropped X-Cal's neck on the rope, allowing Rockwell to recover and give X-Cal the One Stop Drop for the win. Hagen and Caballero exchanged pleased smiles as Hagen went to the back, his missions accomplished.

But if Hagen thought his interference would go unanswered, he was sorely mistaken. In a case of karma, Hagen seemed to have his opponent for the night, El Super Colibri, set for a pin when X-Cal came out. Hagen went to confront him which allowed Colibri to connect with the 918, then hit a flip powerbomb to score the victory. X-Cal celebrated at ringside while Hagen couldn't believe what had happened.

Both men voiced a desire to ComPro management for a match and management was quick to respond. Oklafan has learned that Dutch Hagen and X-Cal are scheduled to open the Noon show at Sheridan Avenue Christian Church this Saturday. Perhaps this confrontation will settle the issue between them, although this seems a little doubtful at this point.
