Roster Depletion Leaves Tag Team Titles Up For Grabs
Posted: Sep 18th 2008 By: CMBurnham
Over the past month, ComPro has seen a depletion of its ranks due to retirement, injury or forced exile. Talent such as Romero Contreras, Anthony Jackson, Brett Taylor, Stevie Caballero and TAP Oklahoma Heritage & MWA Champion Tim Rockwell are all currently absent from the ComPro ring, some permanently, others just for a while. As new ownership attempts to rebuild the company, they took another blow Saturday night when three more top talent left the company, perhaps never to return.
On the first night of ComPro under control of senior referee Mike Two, ComPro Tag Team Champions The Hawaiian Shirt Mafia came out to the ring with their belts. Rocco Valentino thanked the fans for their support and Dutch Hagen signaled his appreciation as well. Rocco went on to thank Dutch for letting him train him and restated his belief that he was fan friendly. He said it didn't matter how many stars walked through the curtain, the only thing that mattered were the fans and he asked those fans to support Mike Two as he attempted to rebuild ComPro from the devestation that Ray Martinez had left it in.
Valentino then dropped a bit of a bombshell by saying that Mike was going to have to rebuild ComPro without him. Rocco was retired and came out of retirement to defend Dutch. Winning the Tag Team Titles was a fluke and while he enjoyed it, he can't be a full-time competitor. Rocco then calmly handed his championship belt to Mike Two and said "Don't call me, I'll call you." before leaving the ring area.
Mike Two reluctantly turned to Dutch Hagen and said that he couldn't be a tag team champion on his own. But he would give Dutch one week to find a partner and enter the 4-Way match to fill the vacant titles on September 20. Dutch agrees and also gave up his title belt.
After Dutch left the ring, but before Mike Two could move on with the first match, Shane Morbid & Boss Campbell stormed to the ring with their gear. Both men were upset at TAP Champion Cast-Iron Cothern's suspension, stemming from actions the previous week. Boss Campbell called the suspension "B. S.": and said he was tired of the Gentlemen Thugs being "screwed over. " Morbid said that the fans don't know what greatness is, even though he shows it to them every week. As far as he was cocerned, it was time to go somewhere where they would be appreciated. Morbid went on to claim that he was the only person to bring any prestige to a title while he held it (that being the ComPro Oklahoma X Division Title) and he would have done the same with the tag team titles, but since he won't be able to get that shot, he and Boss were leaving. They had been given an opportunity to join Adam Thornstowe in California and to compete for Pro Wrestling Guerrilla and were taking that up. Shane finished by stating that he was "tired of everyone" and then left the arena with Boss.
An investigation has revealed that even though he didn't have to, Mike Two was willing to honour the contract given the Gentleman Thugs for a tag team title shot any time they wanted. The Thugs earned this contract by assisting ComPro Champion Jesus Rodriguez defeat Brian Lakewood at Night of Champions IX. Mike has even gone on record as saying that, if the Thugs return, he will still allow them to have their title shot. But they will not be amongst the four tag teams competing this Saturday for the vacant tag team titles.
Any success that the Thugs have in PWG or other California feds will be documented thouroughly in the Oklahoma Scoop Section of this site.
